Description i'm not much of a street photographer, but i sure have this knack for finding the most cliched of subjects and scenarios. this shot looks so posed, but i swear it isn't. i was just walking to the tate modern on my first day in london and ofcourse, getting my first taste for foggy london mornings. as we reached waterloo bridge, i saw this man who looked like he had to be joking. no serious man would be sitting on a bridge at 8:30 in the morning reading with his bike leaned against him - and most of all, wearing a bowler's hat. this was a scene out of a movie.

so the ever ready me took a photo of him and just as i did he looked up. one of my few street shots where the subject has actually noticed me(i'm quite surreptitious). this man looked rather annoyed, so i sort of got a bit lost for words and just smiled awkwardly in a "i'm a japanese tourist, i swear!" way. but then he smiled back in a "well i guess i am in a photo-worthy pose right now" way. when i walked pass him i turned around and asked him for another shot. but he was facing the sun this time, so had a funny squinting expression on his face.

i think if all else fails, when i grow up i can take photographs for tacky travel books.

It's really great. It looks like a prepare shot (I mean the quality), though it's calm and casual.

I love this photo and I think it makes it even more amazing that it wasn't posed. I don't know...somehow it seems more magical.

Oh wow! It's a wonderful picture... and a wonderful story, too.

Look at his feet... he seems to wait just for somebody who is brave enough to portray him. Chapeau, btw

You didn't just portray him, you captured the mood of this morning on the bridge, and that is what makes me look at it again and again.

I love this photograph! I bet he was going to work or something (well...that hat lets me doubt it but anyway) and he was so curious about the action in his book that he just HAD to stop and continue on reading... lol hope you know what I mean.

You've done a really good job, I do love it.

I'm way too shy for something like this. Like melonfairie said before, I'm just not brave enough to take a picture and being caught while doing it. I feel so embarrassed that I normally just walk away with an awkward smile on my face.

so, this goes to my favs

thanks for the comment and fav and trust me, i get chicken too, but usually, people don't even notice that you've taken a photo of them. if they do notice, they are usually quite friendly about it, though i did once try to take a photo of this fire twirling lady practising and got yelled at. she threatened to set her dogs at me if i was going to take a photo without giving her some sort of money. scary. though i guess it is common courtesy to give a street performer/homeless person some change if you are going to photograph them

its interesting how sudden moments remind us of so much -- as random as it seems -- it quite the perfect frame -- when i was there -- i happen to pass something similar -- but never thought to capture it -- thanks for taking my mind back -- later days

Wow, this is a brilliant shot, it's so calming and pensieve . But one thing you gotta remember as a photographer is that it's usually a bit more moral to ask permission haha. Cos people can sue if you make commericial profit from their face or put it on the net etc. But otherwise...FAVE!

Lovely photograph. I find street photography daunting. I remember trying to do it in mainland China. People got angry, or at least embarrassed and turned away quickly. Others decided to shout something out loud at me. No idea what it was, didn't really speak mando. But i have taken a few, making a soldier guarding the front of a political embassy VERY uncomfortable with my fully extended lens pointing at his face and letting the shutter go off several times

If my eyes do not lie to me, he's actually seen you in that photo. He's not looking downwards, his eyes are looking at you.

I had someone do the same thing to me today...I was sitting on top of one of the rocks in the park with rocks in, cross-legged, reading. I didn't actually notice when they took it, because my hair blocked them. But I noticed after...and I felt a little odd...

Street photographers are weird. I know I'd never be able to work up the courage to take random photos of random people...

This is so great! Jeez, I would so love to be a street photographer, but I don't think I'm any good at it. I'm always really cautious and worried about others seeing me taking photos of them! XD You were so brave to turn around and ask for another photo, I'd have to grow oodles of confidence before I could actually ask to take someone's photo.
Anyway, this is really fantastic!

i'm really shy too, but once eye contact is made, i guess it's a lot less daunting. i mean, it means they've already noticed that you're taking a photo of them, so why not ask for another one? just say please and thankyou.
