Basically, Uub is the reincarnation of the evil side of Majin Buu. (You can tell because Uub is just Buu spelled backwards). Goku loved fighting Buu and wished he could fight him again, so he took Uub as his student, in hopes that his power would be on par with that of his previous incarnation.

Haha I love Goku so hard. His crazy love for fighting!!! He lets Vegeta live so he can fight him again, and Uub too! I'll definitely need to watch that season soon!
