wanted to finnaly do some kind of bg.this is my character Jinx.
i roughly traced a bw photo of brandan fraser i found in google, changed the pose a wee bit, then once i had what i needed from it, i coloured and shaded and highlighted on my own, pulled a random texture from google to help muddy up the walls.
the composition maes me un happy, everyside except the right feels... just not right, coz they are too close to the character and dont frame the composition. getting that wall to push away, like on the right plane was trouble. i still dunno if i got it looking right.

I really like the feel of this one.
If I were going to change it to help with your composition complaints, I'd start by adding some darker values around the left and bottom edges.

that might help i think, though the lack of space above his head really bothers me. infact every edge except the right could do with some expanding now that im looking at it.

i could say alot of clever, well-educated pycho-bable about this, but, in the end, its art. a grand image, from an inspired designer/illustrator, executed in a most creative way.

The wall on his right needs more dramatic shading because it looks like just a flat wall. Use gradient from light to dark to achieve the "going back" effect. Also the leg leaning up against the wall looks like a mass. It would look better if you could better distinguish where the thigh ends and where the calf begins. Hope that helps! ^^

that does help actually, id spent a lot of time fussing over other details i didnt notice how undefines the leg was.
theres no gradient function in oc, i was doing that light to dark thing by hand, ill have to import to do that. might do so later on.

I looove the lighting effects on this! The light coming from the window and the way you shaded his clothes. ( Because im soo bad at shading clothes XD )

Im so bad at saying any crits, I ussually just point out what most impresses me of the picture. But I think the wall came out just fine, I love the textures on it, it really gives it that WALL feeling 
There -is- something botherin me about the foot againts the wall D:
But I really cant put my finger on it XD!
But anyways, great coloring, wonderfull Back ground! I really liked that tree through the window ;o;

the foot against the wall bothered me too, for one thing, despite being correct to the reference it feels really small, maybe brendan has small feet, i dunno, the other problem was trying to get it to look like it was hitting the wall properly.

You already know how much I like this. But I'll say it again. The light coming through the window is atonishing. That's right. Astonishing. And the wall texture is very well done. Overall, great piece.

its not just you, that was bother me and a few others too. its correct to the reference i used... so i wasnt sure about altering it when i drew.... i think the lesson here is, dont be afraid to trust my instincts.
