Description
When looking upon a fallen Haradrim foe, Faramir mused:
"I deem. I wonder what his name is... where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home? If he would not rather have stayed there... in peace. "
A possible concept of the gates of Umbar - the city of Corsairs and the trading hub of Harad and homeland of the Haradrim.
This is a piece in my series of the Haradrim homeland concepts.

no it was actually Sam who thought that in the books, but Faramir said it in the Extended versions.

I like this a lot; especially the impression that the city gates have been built-over the old Numenorean walls by the Haradrim. As an aside, by the way, it was not Faramir who said that, it was a reflection from Sam upon seeing his first battle between Men.

Thanks I know it was originally Sam who said that in the novel, but this concept art was made to follow the film cannon
There are more paintings to follow in this series exploring the merge of the Haradrim and Numenorean architectural styles, the walls are mostly what I imagined the architectural style of the Haradrim to resemble due to the fact that the city has survived so many wars... so it's really cool you picked up on that

I'm actually working on a similar sketch of Umbar with the blended architecture; it's probably why I picked up on it so quickly

A powerful, gritty, and hot atmosphere. A nicely imagined Umbar!

You don't need an excuse for such fine work, though it's always a good reason; 'for work/uni'. I look forward to seeing what this project is (if you post any more)!

Wow, great job! The desert-y (that's not a word, I guess) atmosphere is really there, you can practically feel the sand grains in the wind. I love that Faramir quote. Also, beautiful colours!
