Description
I went camping for the first time this weekend. I've not been feeling very arty of late, but was inspired to do some stuff that I would leave in the bush to become part of the landscape. I made this fairly large sculpture to leave inside the hollow of a large tree at the campsite. I am very much hoping that it gets left alone, and no drunken dickhead messes with it. We're going camping there again in a few months so shall report back then.It was somewhat inspired by the creatures in Tool filmclips. Made entirely with sticks and twigs from the campsite and surrounding forest, and natural hemp twine.
This pic was taken during the day. I like this one, though I have some cool night shots too-
And here's a sample of my other stuff... shameless self-promotion is a good thing!

very cool ..I once visualised a creature very much like this ...the only difference really was that it was also somewhat fleshed out with cobwebs

Thats kind of what I'm hoping will happen to it. Spiderwebs in the 'ribs' and head. Stuff like that

Ooh interesting! It reminds me of some kind of native american relic or something. It's hard for me to describe. Something ancient I guess! lol very nice, I hope it's still there when you go back!

LOL If me and my cousin came across that we'd quickly think there are some forest nymphs playing tricks around...or aliens. XD

Nice! I would love to try something like this. It makes me think of an offering left for faeries...
Was there a trick to making the head nice and round like that?

Only to use relatively fresh branches. Fortunately for me there was a lot of rain the week before and a lot of stuff had been knocked off trees so plenty to work with.

Heh that was the original inspiration. That I took no pics of the BW stuff, just left it hanging around the campsite in odd places

hey, this is really worth a DD for sure...
congrats!!!
long time ago i had a time when i was around in the woods and elsewhere and all alone... i did some similar things - once i found a sort of "jesus" on the ground... it was nothing but a piece of oily cloth - someone had mended his car there and left several things - out of that i modelled a complety scenery around him...
i really wish you find him undammaged when you come back - mine were all destroyed almost immediately...
greetings

Heh I know it was obvious but I was somewhat inspired by the Blair Witch Project here. I started off at the beginning of the trip doing identical ones to that and hanging them around and got bored of it pretty quickly. Found a beautifully twisted stick and thoughtt 'that will make an awesome spine' and it just went from there. So much fun

simply cool - that are the best ones, when one just gets an inspiration and improvises as it comes - very nice...
thanx for taking the time to answer...

Heh my housemate who was along camping too wanted me to sculpt *bits* on there, which I was reluctant to do, so the ferns were the compromise. I want to make a bird next I think. Thank you so much x

Yeah I can't wait to see it again. That said, I have a bunch of people asking for similar sculptures now, so I'm thinking I should make some and try selling them.

What you should do is gather your materials from a area topographically similar to theirs, maybe give it a slightly more personal touch.
