if the info material i found is safe, despite the fact that could very likely not be canon anymore (which particular i here decide to ignore ), Vader was mostly sustained by liquid stuff pumped in his blood by his own suit, and among the few moments of pleasure he had in his costant stroll on Emperor's errands through the Galaxy (as seen recently on screen he had his own castle, but rarely went there) one was sitting in the safe environment of his meditation capsule and actually eating (still liquid) food with his poor devastated mouth XD (Another thing was modding his personal Tie, that sounds funny to think about, but actually makes sense on more than one side)

I was just watching a video on Vader.  It was an argument if Vader ever left his suit or not (muddled up by Disney additions to the series.)  But they did mention that meditation capsule.  Very interesting things you bring up.  My older brother has always been the star wars fan in my family, getting figures, card games, books, etc, but my knowledge is much less so.

i always had a huge respect for SW and loved it but couldn't classify as a fan, but partially thanks to a super fan friend and partially to some videos i gave a look too in the last weeks, i found out some interesting stuffs... all in all, the so called "Expanded Universe" wasn't perfect at all, among the huge amount of addition to the saga there was a good amount of -meh- material and -bleaargh- material... but also lots of cool stuff and smart explanation for things the old movies never explained... honestly it was quite unfair from Lucas, i mean wiping it away like with a swipe of sponge
By the way, going back to the suit, yes seems in fact he could actually not live with it (but honestly, even if it was a personal guess, i always had the feeling of that, but back in the days i thought the Dark Side corrupted him phisically xD). Anyway, glad to have been interesting
