Is it called junk because that type of boat was a cheap knock-off from similar Viking boats?

Hehe, funny. But in all seriousness, I believe the original term
for it was "Djun" (Which is Anglicized as "Chuan" for some reason )
which means "boat" or "Ship" in old Chinese. I guess it became "Junk"
when it entered into English, probably because it was the closest-sounding
word they had.

I remember all the dynasty warriors games and the sometimes strange pronunciations of the names. They actually often pronounce names differently from one game to another.
One example is the ruler Cao Cao; who's name is apparently supposed to sound like "Sao Sao" but, was said as "cow cow" for many years before fixing it.
