Description

this was a piece i did in December for a holiday gift exchange!Β

I'm quite proud of it. It's supposed to be a hannibal and harry potter crossover. I spent a long time on this.Β

First of all, the colors you used in the background are beautiful. It reminds us of an aurora borealis. The characters look like ghosts and give us the impression that there is a secret behind all of this. The forest out of focus, is well made and help us focus on the characters. However, we don't really know where our eyes should focus. On the two hugging characters or the two spirits just behind. By the way, the spirits are superb, the glows on the deer is awesome. Nonetheless, the anatomy of the deer looks a bit off. The body is well done, I'm impressed, but the head seems a bit too thick. I would also add some lights coming from the deer on the black spirit in the front. And maybe on the characters, why not ? Besides, I don't thinkg you should not blur that much the shades on the characters, but it is simply my opinion, I prefer rough shades. Maybe you could also add some lights of the aurora on the characters and the spirits to give in impression of synergy.
Anyway, a great peace! I hope you understood my broken english and my little comment helped you out a bit

ahh thank you so much! Your feedback is so appreciated! I have a hard time with shading too lightly or blending too much! I'm working on that.

First off, the black cloaked wraith with antlers? Awesome. The sort of dark, creepy, and almost "druid-esque" design that would be a perfect fit for a Gothic Fantasy story.Β

The overall background, plus the presence of two light-skinned, dark haired young people and a ghostly antler, all remind me greatly of the "Army of Dementors" scene in Prisoner of Azkaban. I can't tell if that was a deliberate reference on your part, but between all of those things plus the wraith-like entity, I am definitely getting a Prisoner of Azkaban vibe off of this picture. Not that that's at all a bad thing.

Hey! I saw this in #projectcomment and was quite drawn to it. I love the colors and feel of the entire piece. I can definitely see it as being a harry potter-hannibal crossover. It has that aspect of mystery, magic, and sadness. I really like how you did the forest in the background. I like that it is out of focus since it is not the main point to the picture, but I do think that the heights should be a bit more even. Since it is in the distance, it would be harder to distinguish the differing heights as you can right now. I also really like the two people embracing, the details and shading were done very well. My critique on this section however would be that it looks very two dimensional. The man in the back seems to be on the same plane as the woman he is embracing.Β

Overall, I think this piece is a wonderful piece with maybe a few technical errors. As is I still think it is great. I really like the glow you have going on as well! Keep up the good work.

Hello there! I'm from project comment and I will be offering you a piece of critique on your fabulous art~

Let's start with the praises then move on to what you could improve upon. I'd like to say the shading is pretty well done, especially in the clothing. The atmosphere of the piece is very dark and brooding, with very nice outlines and shading. I like the way you did the clothes, and where you added the creases and such to the piece, it really gives the clothes a part that pops. I also really like the night sky. It's very simplistic, yet also incredibly gorgeous. It has a soft feel to it, which allows it to greatly contrast with the rest of the piece, making it stand out a bit. Not too much, but enough to capture peoples' attention when they browse through DA and happen to stumble upon a piece like this. The eyes I must praise as well, since they are well done and truly capture a feel of emotion and sorry(?) when you look at them.

Now for what I believe you could improve. I think you could try practicing with heads a bit more, as the body is fine, until you get to the head, which is a bit lopsided. I would say raise the chin up a bit. Try practicing with the hair some more, and trying to get it to be more free and wavy, rather than making it look stiff. My suggestion would be to look at references of different angles to better capture the head at that position. Also, I feel that the white shading around the deer is a little distracting. I know it is suppose to seem like a glow, but it is too vibrant and bright. I would advise dimming the glow a bit, so it doesn't pop as much, as it is a little out of place.

I hope this was helpful!

;u; Oh i appreciate this so much. I'm so pleased you liked so much of it!Β
I do agree that the heads/faces are certainly a weak point! I am doing a lot of practicing lately for that :3 Thank you so much again.Β

Hannibal as in the cannibal show?
That aside and since you uploaded this to a critique group, I'll give you a quick critique.
So I ain't got too many problems with this here picture, the first one is the placement of the characters. (I believe most people read from left to right so that's something you need to be aware of). You introduce the Dementor and the stag ( I'm assuming its a protronous) first, but you introduce them them in the background which hurts the general flow of the painting because we have to first go in and the pull out in order to see the two men. This is an abrupt that pretty much nukes any flow you have. To fix this, I'd reverse the positioning, have the battling critters stand in the foreground ( violence is very loud, it'll draw a casual eyes very easily) and shift the embracing men to the background while keeping them on their respective sides of the portrait. Β Next, I'd position the stag closer to the viewers so that its light will make the Dementor cast a long, dark shadow that'll both lead the eye and connect the foreground to the background.
All that dealt with, it comes time to voice my qualms as a nerd/geek. First, the protronous should be a creature of pure light that contrast's the Dementor's darkness. If you don't, people will think that it's a normal stag. Okay second note, based on the assumption that its a stag, the means that one of the two men his harry potter ( if i had to guess, I'd say the one in the front due to the green eyes). This poses a slight problem because Harry seems to be wandering around in the dead of night without his glasses. Finally, I'd try to find someway to slip in his scar since that's his most distinctive feature.
I hope this helps and if I came across as harsh I'm sorry, wasn't my intention.
Fare thee well, oh great and powerful merger of worlds.Β
P.S. Well done.

Yes hannibal as in the cannibal show! X3Β

I really appreciate this feedback, it means a lot! I will definitely take these tips into mind.Β
The stuff about the flow of the piece is definitely noted!! I really appreciate it.Β

Addressing the bit of confusion about the characters, that is not Harry, but in fact Will Graham from the Hannibal tv show X3. I did make the stag dark, because cannon to the show, the stag is dark. This was an ode to the fact that Hannibal would have a suspiciously dark aura to him i suppose. I don't know a lot about Harry Potter so I really had to wing it for that one.Β

Also you did not come across as harsh at all, at least not to me. I love constructive criticism.Β
