Description
This is a little old, I drew this a few months ago. It's a humanized version of Bombette from Paper Mario 64. (N64 my favorite console!) Just a little somethin' i did inbetween PSAT testing. Looking back on it, i don't think she'd wear a skirt as short as that...i do NOT own Bombette or Paper Mario

Interesting direction. I imagined Bombette much older (between 16 and 25, actually), so it's a little surprising to see her so young and in such typically "pink is girlie" attire. What was your inspiration for the design?

Well I think I gave her a girly pink look because of the way she acts in game. The scene I remember most and associate with her personality is when you fail the guess the correct double in the Crystal Palace. Β From what I remember she gets mad and literally blows up at you (though I could be remembering wrong, it has been a while.)Β She is also seen in-game to be a cute character as told by her tattle:"She's named Bombette. That pink is adorable! She does seem to be pretty strong willed. Her future boyfriend might be in for some trouble!" So I thought she would look girly but still retain that strong-willed-not-going-to-put-up -with-nonsense attitude.
For her age I think I just guessed. I did image for her to be a young teenager, maybe one who looks younger than she actually is. I probably woulda put her around 14-15.
This drawing is actually two years old as of now and I think if I had to redraw this I'd give her a less grumpy expression and maybe put her in shorts. ^_^

Good explanation. I didn't necessarily disagree with your interpretation, but was still curious about the rationale. I'm currently replaying Paper Mario 64 and have found that my own interpretation of Bombette is adjusting slightly.
I could very well see Bombette having this appearance (the facial expression is totally her) and design aesthetic at a young age, but an older version would probably dress a little more practical. I suppose I just can't help but see her as more of a fiery tomboy with science-inclinations, being an engineer and all.
I'm totally in support of you redrawing her since your own talent has improved quite a lot. I imagine you could design something really cool. It would probably even be a really good cosplay idea. (You'd make a great Bombette... Or a lolita-style Lady Bow?)

After staring at the picture for a while, I do agree she looks really young. Hehe, if I redrew her she'd look a little older. I wish I could replay Paper Mario. My N64 died. gotta go buy it for virtual console
I take it you looked at my cosplays? :3 Since you happen to know what kinda styles I like. You know what? I had a Lady Bow design but I never finished it. (I was actually going to draw all the party members but I never finished. I did it for the Thousand Year Door party though. Which is also an old picture that I wouldn't recommend.) Though I have to admit I never thought of doing lolita for Lady Bow. That's a great idea! (She's actually my second favorite party member.)
Oh! And when in the game does it say Bombette wants to be an engineer? That sounds familiar but I don't remember.

I've heard the virtual console version of the game has some problems with lag, so it's a shame your N64 died. It's just the best way to recapture that experience.
I did. Your cosplay is very good. The quality and craftsmanship is commendable. Do you produce at least some of your own materials or do you purchase/commission?
Lady Bow is my second favorite partner as well, right after Bombette. She just has so much more personality and PRESENCE than the other partners. I really liked her chapter and continued to alternate between her and Bombette throughout the rest of the game. It's a shame neither of them or any of the partners are present in TTYD. I'd have loved at least cameos.
I don't think it's an explicit aspect of her character, but I always just assumed it was the case since she and the other Bob-Ombs said that they worked for the Koopa Bros. before imprisonment and the rail company later offered her a job as thanks for clearing the tracks.

I make all my cosplays do some degree. I've only had two bought and that's just because my mom wanted them. I say 'to some degree' because I can't actually sew very well. I find articles of clothing at thrift stores and alter them. All my props, though, are handmade.Β
Ah, that's pretty good attention to detail you've got there. I forgot that the Bomb-oms worked for the Koopa Bros.
Hehe, I miss playing as Bow. I remember I couldn't do the action commands very well when I was little so I would shift the entire controller so that the joystick was on my palm and I would use my entire hand to move the stick to the left. It was the only way I could fill the smack meter. XD Ah, good times...

I do the same: put together what I can, cheaply, and buy/craft what I can't find.
That is just too cute. It sounds like a lot of girls I've known who've played Nintendo. How old were you then? (I was 11 when it came out; 25 now)
I'm really hoping for an E3 announcement for a console Paper Mario sequel that returns to the series' roots. It's been long overdue. I've written a lot about what I'd like to see and I think there's a good chance of most them happening.

I think I was 3 when it came out (It came out in 2001 right?). However I would just watch my dad play it and I would mess around afterwards. So many hours lost walking around the Forever Forest just to kill Fuzzies I don't think I played the whole thing for myself until I was like 10 or something. (I'm 17 now)
This is totally never going to happen but I kinda wanna see a Paper Luigi at some point. I mean, he went on a whole adventure in Thousand Year Door paralleling Mario's. Β Am I the only one who really want's to see that as a game? Ikd. Just a fun thought.Β
I haven't played Sticker Star yet but I hear it's not very good... Is it a side scroller like Super Paper Mario or more free roaming like the first two. Because I know the two things I want to see reappear are open areas and the return of the use of Party Members. SPM could get away with the Pixels, but any new installment must have actual party members.

Ah. So, we first "played" the game around the same age. That's pretty cool.
"Paper Luigi" would be an amazing experience, but one of my hopes for a new game would be a small team in which Luigi is a partner. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars remains one of my favorite gameplay-experiences for that reason: a small, core group of partners.
While Super Paper Mario at least had good writing and humor on its side, Sticker Star is a pretty barren game. There are no partners, no RPG-style battles and no badges. Very little writing as well. I would not recommend it if you're a fan of the first two games.
Have you ever played the Mario & Luigi series? It's just the two brothers, but the games are developed by much of the same team who worked on the original Super Mario RPG.

My brother has all 4 of the Mario and Luigi games but I never played them for myself.
I watched him play them though so I get the general plot. I tried to play M&L Super Star Saga around the time it came out but it didn't keep my attention long enough. I should try to replay it since I've gotten better at playing games and while my Gameboy still works...
Not that it's a boring game or anything, it's just that turned based RPGs where never my thing. I'd rather be out in a field then be sucked into a battle screen. Which is why Paper Mario fascinates me so much. Even though it's a turn based game I still enjoy it for it's atmosphere and creativity. And the battle system was never that complicated so it was very fun to play.

You should give them a chance, then! They're very good RPGs that utilize the overworld just as you describe. It's a fair split between typical Mario-style platforming and turn-based battling.
While Super Mario RPG is much more closely related to your typical JPRG-style gameplay, it's not overly complicated and plays very similarly to Paper Mario. I would very much recommend it for the story and atmosphere alone.
