Description Artwork based on the James Bond film A View To A Kill. This is another Bond film that gets frequently bashed as being one of the worst in the series. But regardless of what some people say, A View To A Kill is one of my favourites. Both the title song and soundtrack are my most favourite. Max Zorin (Christopher Walken) and May Day (Grace Jones) are awesome villains. There are some pretty cool action scenes, and I like the story as well as the 1980s feel of the film. And despite Roger Moore being in his late fifties in this, I still think he looks fairly good for his age, and plays the part well.

Aw, I love A View to a Kill, too.Β  It's so 1980s!Β  Chrisopher Walken---sigh!---is wonderful as the icy Max Zorin.Β  I could watch him all day with those stylish orange sunglasses and riding boots.Β
Β It was also the first movie I ever saw that had horse action in it, which (as a fan of all things pony) I craved.Β  Inferno (Bond's crazed horse) was gorgeous, too.Β  These days, I admittedly stop the movie after the steeplechase scene since it tends to get boring once the film leaves France and shifts to San Francisco.

This film gets a lot of flak but I personally enjoyed this than For Your Eyes Only. Max Zorin is awesome.
For me the weak point was Tanya Roberts, whose character irritated me no end, and the increase in violence. However I can see that was paving the way for the darker, edgier tone of the next 1980s Bond with Timothy Dalton.

Walken and Jones were both excellent, yes. And the title song was perfect.

But overall, the movie was a disaster. Weak action, bland plot, and absolute Zero chemistry between Moore and Roberts.Β

Moore has expressed regret for making this movie, and has said in numerous occasions that it is his least-favorite of the 7 Bond movies he made. Sadly, I have to agree with that assessment.

The only criticisms I've personally heard Moore say about the film was the amount of violence, difficulty working with Grace Jones, and that he felt a little too old for the part by that point. While I understand A View To A Kill isn't perfect (no Bond film is), and there was definitely more untapped potential, the amount of hate it gets goes rather overboard, in my opinion.

Bond fans tend to take the movies a bit too seriously, praising or damning with too much stridency. I agree that AVTAK is a victim of that.

But yes, Moore has definitely said AVTAK is his least-favorite. I know he said that in his memoir ("My Word Is My Bond" published about 2008 or so) and also said that it was difficult working with both Grace Jones AND with Tanya Roberts. He has said that when he was filming Octopussy, he just assumed it was his last go-'round as 007, and when it was over he felt glad to have gone out on a high note. But he was persuaded to come back and do one more, and -- while he was glad to accept the $$$ and do the work -- it was (artistically) a regrettable mistake.

Well, being a big fan of Roger Moore, I'm glad that he did A View To A Kill. I love all seven of his Bond films, and along with Connery, Moore was the Bond I watched the most as a kid. Since Moore's departure, there hasn't been another Bond actor that I've liked as much as him, and I don't think there will be another quite like Roger Moore.
