it was about time i drew a more proper reference for matthias, since the last one is from 2014.
i wasn't able to really show much of it, but he has a frill/sail thing on his back instead of spines

for the people who've been following me for a while, you're probably no stranger to how fffffffffffffucking stupid i think it is that we're supposed to believe grimbo or whatever- one-ass guy- killed every single night fury on the planet. yeah, he probably has a decent bodycount, but he definitely did not kill all of them- there are probably tens of thousands still living in europe, asia, and maybe even africa

I completely agree that Grimbo could not have killed all of the Night Furies. I'm sorry, but how does one man manage to wipe out an entire species of super-fast, very sneaky, highly intelligent flying dragons from the face of the Earth? Spoiler: he doesn't.
Anyways, I've always loved Matthias,, and I'm very happy to see a new refsheet of him!

For reals though. ONE guy against an entire population of dragons that can camouflage in the shadows/night. And somehow, a bunch of species no one heard about this entire time lives in this secret glowy underwater cave ecosystem... except night furies? Pls.

especially with how stupidly op they made toothless in the third movie
i have a lot of problems with THW- by no means was it a bad movie, but it felt like there was just a lot of stuff that, the more i thought about it, the more those things ruined the movie for me. i feel like it's a real step backwards from the previous two.

Oh yeah, agreed. Of all of them, THW was the most disappointing. On its own, not a bad movie at all. But next to the other two... big meh.Β
It felt as thought they tried to cram everything into a trilogy, when the previous two movies set it up for more than that. The whole idea makes no sense. The books set the premise up far more properly. Humans and dragons were truly suffering, there were wars and deaths and tragedy, warranting the dragon's departure. Movie universe? A couple of dragon trappers, one asshole who specifically hates night furies and this kid who likes hoarding dragons on a tiny island lol. His hoarding issue gets so out of hand that he's pursued by The Asshole and suddenly, the best choice is to remove all dragons from the world. π

it's also funny cause realistically, it's only the dragons of berk that have left. dragons in fuckin austria aren't gonna know what the hell some obscure tribe of people decided to do.

Yes, all of my yes. And even if by some stretch, dragons only existed in that specific northern archipelago and nowhere else in the world, I doubt the handful Hiccup collected on their tiny island (+ the handful that were still trapped w/ the dragon trappers) equals to ALL of them.
Honestly maybe I would've gotten over these random inconsistencies if the movie actually made sense though. But nothing makes sense. Nothing in the previous movies suggested that things are so dire it would lead to dragons leaving permanently. Even Toothless suddenly being portrayed as a wild animal and an OP ultimate Alpha that has utmost control over ALL dragons makes little sense. Second movie justified it. He wanted to protect Hiccup so badly that he overpowered his fears and achieved his full potential, gaining the respect of the dragons in the vicinity. Everything before the third movie suggests that his dog-like loyalty to Hiccup is the leading factor for everything. Heck, he managed to overpower that instinctive control the alpha had over him just for Hiccup... So for the third movie to come in and turn him into a mindless animal that suddenly forgot everything because he met exactly one female of a different species.. and then decidedly leave and take all of the dragons into the hidden world with him for no real reason... It's a strange turn of events.Β
Ah well! At the very least it opened up the possibility of hybrids lol. Titan rising has some incredibly adorable little hybrid dragons I'm absolutely dying over.
