Beautiful work my friend It reminds me that I still have not looked the Rogue one

but now with your new US president  who want to destroy our world and And his words of desire to use the nuclear weapon against  middle east and Europe like I can to read it on a article before his election as a president, but His words remain and now with the withdrawal of USA on the Paris Agreemend and his Arrogant behavior of his visit In Europe especially with the president of Monténégro .I decided to boycott a lot of stuff from USA like movies, series, Macdonald and apple.

Sorry it's not against you and your family ,but he looked for it

I applaud you for taking that position and agree with you completely. I would join your boycott but I am unfortunately living in this country. I hope for impeachment every day. And I know several people who voted for this madman who are regretting it openly. We can only hope that reason will prevail eventually.

thank you so much my friend, I'm glad you're not angry

I understand that it is hard to boycott the products of the country in which you live even if it isn't the will that is lacking. And when you told me that Switzerland is missing you, I think it's even stronger now!
I think those who voted for him must bite their fingers now, they may be ashamed, this little pretentious man has nothing to do at the head of a country even François Hollande was more competent than this guy and I can not believe I just said this.
This guy is completely mad and at home many people compare him to Hitler, except that Hitler was more intelligent, strategist and cultivated than Trump, it makes Fear
Poor mankind where are you go?

I also hope every day that he will dismissed

And apart from that, how are you? and your family?

Heh!  Good to see you continuing the exploration with the hidden messages and imagery.  I'm wondering if there are ways to vary up the values a little more, perhaps the darker values could have a black base with grey or white type.  That way there's more of a range and greater contrast.  Just a thought!

I am beginning to experiment with markers of varying widths. It worked very well on the stormtrooper, but that was largely white. It is much harder to get the variations on something which is largely black. Of course, it is my shortcoming, not the fault of the subject. I always had difficulty painting black on minis too... small areas like helmets or boots were not much of an issue, but a full black coat or pants were problematic for me.
Part of it is also fatigue... I have to work a small area at a time or my lines start to get shaky and that makes a difference in the shade produced.
I think I can do better the next time on Vader. This one was a learning experience. Thanks for the encouragement.

What is it about painting/drawing larger fields of black that makes it more challenging for you?  I suppose you could lightly map out the areas of different values (shades of grey/black) in pencil and then fill each area at a time.

Not really sure. Maybe that's why it's challenging me.
Inability to decompose the blacks to the necessary components? Maybe? Like, what makes it look like black cloth versus black leather? It's all tricks of shading and highlight. Getting the white in the right places. My brain refuses to see the components and just sees black.

I do work with a map of sorts. Actually a full-on cheat. I start with a reduced color value image and work over it on a light table. It's still quite a bit of work to recreate the right color values with hundreds of tiny marks. And I think that's where I need more practice. You can see the incremental improvement in the portraits of my kids and moving forward into these last two pieces.

I think it's easy to over-do it and end up with everything too dark and just not enough contrast to the picture. I reckon I'll do Vader over with a pilot image of 16 "colors" (it's a grayscale image). This one I reduced to four. And also start with an 08 Micron marker and back off to the 005. Most of this I did with the 005... which is great for details, but not so for filling large areas with darkness.

And, ya know, that's the real challenge here... making recognizable mini-pictures and text which also have the correct color value when viewed from a distance.

I think this is the challenge when anyone is forging into a new territory and developing a unique technique, it's bound to require a bit of experimentation because there are no preexisting footsteps to follow.  But, you seem quite aware of what needs to be worked on, which is a huge part of the battle.  I would guess that the higher contrasted and mechanical  subject matters such as Vader would be best to start with because there are harder and more defined edges, unlike some thing more matte like cloth or skin (or kids) which would have more subtle gradients and less contrast.

Magnification might be useful, I have often painted with a headset to create tight details.  Another way to darken values could be partially filling in the negative space around the letters (like a dot in the middle of a letter O, for example).

Looking forward to your next one!
