Description ahh yes the long awaited Thylacine Notes part2.

here's the original

not as sloppy as the other, and not as many facts as the other. as i didnt want to repeat myself too much, and i didnt have enough sketches for the other things i wanted to point out...soo mabey a Thylacine notes3 may happen?

same as the last time, please do not use this or these images w/out my permission. and do not steal the markings or colors of the thylacine showed here, for he is an original character of mine named Hugh.

thank you and enjoy!

This is a fabulous studied guide' helped me improved my drawings on these guys. The only thing that concerns me is the side profile of the head. Didn't the slope between the forehead and the snout was more similar to say an opossum? Whenever I see the videos it just looks more opossum each time.

I actually found a few videos from 1933 of the last known thylacine: most of these videos were taken the day before it died [link]
great help by the way

Great work! I'm thinking of doing some thylacine-based artwork myself soon, so I'm sure this will come in handy.

If its ok, do you think I could use this as a reference for better anatomy? I can't seem to find many others anywhere else online.

I've always wanted to make my alternate fursona / persona thylacine (he's always had the back markings) but I never
felt confident in my ability to draw them. Granted, that was a long time ago when I first considered it and my anatomy
and ability to draw a variety of animals has improved greatly since, but since the Tasmanian tiger is an extinct animal
there's not a whole lot of anatomical references, in photos and skeletons and the likes, to go off of. But I found these
notes of yours and the website you linked to and they've been really helpful. So I just wanted to thank you for sharing
this with everyone. c:

WOW. They should make an animated movie with Tassie tigers and you should definitely be the designing artist. I am OBSESSED with Tasmanian tigers. I'm actually in tassie right now. Maybe I'll find one... ;D

This is the first extinct (t) animal from civilization I learned about. It always made me sad, and mad at are forefathers. Shows why we need to try and protect are wildlife.

The measurement of 24 inches or two feet is taken at the shoulders like with other animals right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DJ88 In reply to KCBL [2010-11-05 23:30:56 +0000 UTC]

yes we usually measure at shoulder height

I heard that when they run they always moved their hind legs in parallel (like in jumping kangaroos or bunnies).
Your drawings are very neat and cute.

This. Is. Creepy.
You know, I had a dream months ago. This dream really had me hooked! I was an animal, and I ran, together with a big, big herd through the Grand Canyon Then there were cowboys, and we attacked their horses & such... oh gawd, freaky stuff.. but it was really funny to be an animal one time.
I tried to draw the animal I saw there in my dreams, it really captured me.
But I TERRIBLY FAILED! xD
And now I see this, it's exactly the animal I was there in this dream! I didn't know they existed in real life!
So sad that they were eradicated.

So, sorry for spamming you with not-worth-knowing information
I love your character Hugh, and I'd be interested in making my own Thylacine-character! Would you mind?

DJ88 In reply to tardis101 [2010-09-06 07:44:07 +0000 UTC]

all have whiskers in RL, the way i draw them though i dont give them whiskers, treat em as if they're facial hair type things.

<3 Much love! You clearly know your Thylacines. I've seen a lot of evidence that they may still be roaming in areas, but we don't know. .0. Inconclusive. I think that'd be be cool, but we all hope that we haven't pulled another dodo, don't we?

Aanyhow, Thylos are just cool in general, between color pattern and body structure, and their snouts are so cool~ What I really love about them, though, is how their rumps are (were) like an optical illusion. You can see it in at least one of the old videos, I know - how when you view them from the back at the right angle, their stripes VANISH, y'know? I always thought that was the best. l3

Man. You make me wanna draw some Thylos.

hmmm I reckon I could master the anatomy (after screwing up several forests worth of paper) but I would struggle with expressions, cuz how do you fit a sad face or an angry face onto a muzzle that long? Meh, I fail >.<

DJ88 In reply to tardis101 [2010-08-19 00:49:04 +0000 UTC]

actually thats one thing that is a challenge in drawing thylacines. at first i was all "whagpkjgfb how the hell do i do this?!?!?!" cuz my expressive drawings have defined expressions. but im working through it playing around with the mouth and eye brows a bit. i think im getting to it.

D: How did I miss this in my messages?! I must have been going through things too fast XD

I haven't drawn a thylacine in a while, and all my library books that had stuff about them had to be returned, so I haven't really had many refrences handy. So these, along with your other notes, have been/will continue to be a big help, so I really appreciate you taking the time to draw these

(Also, I might have to draw some fanart of Hugh for you, because he's just awesome XD)
