Description
My Open Category model for the UK Golden Demon '08.I loved making the Chaos Lord so much last year that i wanted to tackle the same kit again,but go to town on it...This is the result!
I wanted bigger,badder and more detailed...so i hit the bits box and a bit of sculpting.
Instead of boring you with all the details,i'll wait for questions,and answer them...
He made finalist in the Open,which,considering the levels of excellence this year,im very pleased with

Well,this guy is a little bigger than i normally do,but thats because of his trophy racks and armour size! The scale is 28mm,which is ABOUT 1 and a half inches high,so i think this one is perhaps 2,or 2 and a half inches...
I recommend it as an art form,the smaller scale makes you really think about composition and painting techniques.I would say that a pretty girl like yourself wandering into a model shop will get hounded though lol I've seen it happen! I assume you have a bf,in which case,take him along as a bodyguard lol
If you get an idea about the sort of thing you'd like to do,i can direct you to all kinds of cool companies that make lovely figures

That would be awesome! I really have no idea where to start .. I have wandered into some of these stores and indeed, got some weird faces, but I guess I am not really the girly-type-of-girl (more rock&metal chick), so people are not really surprised to see me there. It's the same with the TCGs, I've played Magic for some time and those guys in these shops always give me the *you don't know anything about this shit* face, which is kinda funny ^^ but after a while I get used to it .. it's not like they jump all over me or something
Anyway, thanks for the offer, I will definitely ask for some advise once I've saved up the money to buy some stuff!

Ah cool...i like a lady willing to give new things a go and is interested in Fantasy stuffs! I used to play Magic YEARS ago...i think Urza's Legacy was new when i stopped lol
I have all those cards somewhere! I follow a couple of the MTG artists here on DA so i sort of keep up to date with the new art at least
Anyway,yea,save a few pennies,most of your costs will be equipment lol same with most art...model prices can vary a lot,but theres some very nice,but affordable pieces out there by small independant companies and they're ideal for starting out
28mm...yea,it is small...but theres some quick and easy techniques you can learn that help bring out the detailing pretty well! I still use the basics a lot

Meh...i think Finalist in the Open category is about as good as one can expect,taking down the Studio boys is a tough challenge!
Finalist means this was in contention i think so...its not a shabby result by any means...just means i have to try harder!

Hmm...i think the best start you can get is look at any artwork you can...Chaos is a very diverse look,depending what God you pick,and every artist has their own image of it all...

Well,its a painting competition...but thats just part of Games Day,its essentially Games Workshops convention day,so theres all the writers,painters,sculptors...plus loads of games to play!

You dont have to stay...its a one day event,so you go,spend the day at the NEC arena,then go home again.
There is a hotel there for those that travel from other countries though...
