Species - Dinopithecus djinfernus
Time - Plioscene
Diet - Omnivore
Temperament - Barbarous
WILD
Unlike primates & monkeys, Dinopithecus djinfernus live a life of total seclusion residing on the highest mountains or deep within the jungle. Encounters with this violent beast usually ends in a savage beating, pulverising its target until its nothing more but a bloody stain.
DOMESTICATED
Taming a Dinopithecus is indeed a suicide mission. Survivors who strive to capturing this feral brute walk a delicate tightrope between incredibly brave & extraordinarily stupid. Though having one in your arsenal has proven to be exceedingly rewarding. Not only do these simian troopers have the proficiency to utilise & manoeuvre through their environment with ease they double as fighters specialised in bloodlust becoming more ferocious the more they attack.
KNOWN INFORMATION
It is unclear to why the brain of the Dinopithecus is naturally hardwired to rage. Their infamy earned its respect among predator & prey alike. Survivors consider its palm as a symbol of immense strength & dominance to whomever is in possession of it.
Trivial notes:
The Dinopithecus is a species of large baboon with its name literally meaning "Terrible ape".
Djinfernus, the genus for this species, is derived from Djinn, an Arabian supernatural demon or spirit characterised as good or malevolent entities, & Inferno, an uncontrollable fire or another name for Hell in reference to Dante's Divine Comedy. In combination the creature's name would translate as "Infernal Demon Ape". Which would be rather fitting for the creature's relentless aggressiveness & brutality towards anything that stumbles in its way.
Though only known from partial remains of its body, it was credited to have stood shoulder height in comparison to the average man whereas females grew to be at least 4 feet tall (1.22 m).
A fossil discovery of ninety giant baboons were found together & interpreted as being slaughtered by the early hominid Homo erectus between four hundred thousand & seven hundred thousand years ago. Dinopithecus in these concentrations were entirely juveniles & subadults leading to the speculation that the Hominid may have been the cause of the species' eventual extinction.
Though Dinopithecus is the largest species of Baboons to have lived, Dinopithecus djinfernus is heavily based off the Mandrill, a primate species of the Old world monkey family reigning from Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea & the Congo.
Dinopithecus djinfernus bears a similar resemblance to the Blangonga / Copper Blangonga from Capcom's Monster Hunter II.

Hey cheers for that. That means a tonne.
It basically means brutal & uncivil to the point of being primitive. A line that crosses in between reactive & aggressive.

Well picture an aggression range that extends so far that you don’t technically have to get its attention or set eye contact, it just basically knows your there the moment you step into its territory. & the only explanation to it is “I have to beat the living crap out of that thing.”
Kinda like an aura of awareness

Oh cool I suggested this to the Ark Additions mod last year! I love the idea of killer baboons... we really need more monkeys.
