Description Apophysis 2.07

This script is based on 's Golden Compass piece ([link] ). I worked out an initial script for it, but it produced images with very little variation. So I turned to the Master. re-worked the script (or more likely re-wrote it) and this is the result. So, ultimately, if you like this, make sure that you let and know. All the real credit goes to them.

The script requires a lot of plugins. You need Cross, Curve, Epispiral, and Escher. To make things easy, I've included them in the ZIP file. Hope that doesn't step on anyone's toes. The ZIP file also contains the collage (done at a fairly low quality) and a sample flame pack.

One word of caution. There is a lot going on in the final transform. If you bump the quality and size up, be prepared for long rendering times.

PS. I *think* I've fixed the ZIP file

Is there any way to get this to work with 2.08? It suddenly stopped working for me and the only thing that's changed is the version of Apo.

Not sure I know what the problem is. No one else has reported one. Does it give an error? Are you missing some plugins?

I have all the plugins needed. I keep up to date with those. It doesn't give an error at all. It runs the script but only gives me a little dot. I even tried downloading the script again and the plugins. That usually works, but it didn't fix anything this time.

I don't even have Apophysis on my machine right now. Haven't used it in months. I'd look through the script and see if the variations mentioned are in your setup.

Well, whatever was wrong was fixed when I trashed the whole thing and downloaded all of Apo again. Reinstalled everything from scratch. It works! yay

Do I have to use only the Golden Compass flame to generate a fractal with this script?

All you need is the script and the plugins.

The Golden Compass is producing just a dot in the center of the field instead of producing a fractal. I'm using Apo 2.07 beta

Does it show the plugins as available variations? If not, make sure they are in the right folder, that there are not too many of them, and that you are not running Apo from a shortcut. CabinTom has an excellent tutorial on plugins on his site.

Thanks again. I sorted it out. Rereading the plugins link was helpful -- I got the latest beta and then realized that it was not put in the Apo 2.0 folder and thus for SOME of the scripts (Golden Compass being one of them) the program could not find what it needed. It worked fine on others even though Apo 2.07 was not in the same folder as the plugins and scripts.

When I placed Apo 2.07 beta in the SAME folder as the plugins and scripts, and launched the program from within that folder, all the scripts have worked fine thus far -- with the exception of the plastic balls script, which just brings up a "save" menu when you try to run it.

When you choose a flame pack name to save them in, what happens? The script is very, very simple. If I remember correctly, all it does is add a final transform of bubble or sphere (not sure which).

OH! Sorry -- I did not realize that was part of the script. When I choose a flamepack name to save them in, it generates flames with the preface of "plasticball" -- and generates a sphere shaped fractal out of the flames so labeled.

thanks so much! I'm sorry I misunderstood what was happening.

Great script ... thanks so much for sharing it with us. Just uploaded my first attempt [link]

Umm, you're not kidding about the final transform ... I can't help it, I had to tweak. My longest rendering time ever

LOL I think the licence says you can include the dll's in files as long as the .c source goes with them at the same time. I think you can post that as a question on the mail list. I think I am the only one at the moment that is doing coded version numbers for my plugins so a date of release would be a nice addition too. I know a lot of the released plugins from sourceforge have had their code updated over the last few months too, not that they will be much different than what is out there now

Will give these a little play and see what I can see

Thanks Daniel. Hope to get some good results. I shall wait until the new computer arrives if rendering is going to be long...

It's not too bad for most of them as long as you keep the quality low. I did quality of 500 on most of the ones in the flame pack and it produced images every 10 minutes or so. The last one in the pack though (the sample I posted) is a killer. A high-quality (2000) version of the sample image that I posted is an overnight thing. A preview image of it in the preview pane with a quality of 50 is a 8-minute render. I'm going to kick two of them off overnight in higher quality to see what they do.
