Finally used this tutorial as inspiration for some of my own castle/town symbols and I gotta tell you I love the style. Thanks a ton for this (and all) of your tutorials. By the way, what font is that you're using for the "Castle Symbol" text? Is it a free font? Because I like it a lot.

Well done, Dj! Good city icons/symbols are sometime the hardest part of a map for me. I often struggle between iso style and the antique simple flat icons we know from Renaissance maps.

thanks! for me icons are often the most fun part to make. just love to droodle these little buildings

That is a delightful wee castle! Simple though this may be, I've been doodling away at a map and running into problems precisely because I am *not* using isometric paper. Always the way - we let the foundation techniques slide first! Thanks for the gentle kick in the right direction.

thanks, hehe, first time someone thanked me for a kick indeed, a grid is a total timesaver (i get crazy flipping the image and zooming in/out when not using a grid to check if it looks ok)

This is my favorite tutorial so far. Sooooo much easier to draw these guys on an iso grid than it is freehand.

I like your work. What did you use to make it with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Djekspek In reply to CrimsonHussar [2012-05-06 17:18:35 +0000 UTC]

I really only use Photoshop and a wacom tablet. And sometimes for more complex scenery I use sketchup to get the basic perspective of shapes right, without having to draw all those reference lines myself
