Ok, I see. It's not a generations-starship, although it could be one, if there was an engine available.
Still: I like it.

I'm so sorry, i never saw this comment.
That's actually right and wrong. Most of them come from Sol-System.
Massive thrusters are attached after being constructed at Luna-Ring Station and they travel trough one of the nine "Portas Link" Gates in Sol to another system. From there they either take a permanent orbit in the System or they continue through the gates until they reach their destination then the engines are jettisoned.
This takes a pretty long time to do however, and usually requires a pretty sizable defense fleet to escort these Stations to their destinations.
In the later years to come, as humanity advances and is able to use the An'Kunik's left over tech, Slip- Transition Cores are installed during construction of almost any large station of vessel. This allows for an instant jump anywhere in the known universe(if you have enough power). Essentially a Slip-Transition moves you outside the bounds of reality and back to where ever you want. The visual aspect is 2 bubbles. one that encompasses the vessel or station and the other, which appears at the intended location. Both exist at one point in and outside of Reality. After that, you just head on through.

This is fantastic! Its like an O'Neill, yet in a new variation, or depending on its size, a nice step between a Bernal sphere and an O'Neill cylinder.

Thanks alot!! yeah it's based off the O'Neill

Only gripe - no lights, it would give a sense of scale.

Aside that - perfect.

And the station is brilliant!

Thanks!

Sweet station, not too many realistic stations depicted these days everyone goes the space opera method and plans on artificial gravity rather than a slowly rotating cylinder. A refreshing change

djomally In reply to karanua [2012-04-19 01:40:15 +0000 UTC]

I agree, you dont really see too many realistic Stations out there. this one is based off of the old O'Neil Cylinder Concepts my favorite!

karanua In reply to djomally [2012-04-19 03:16:09 +0000 UTC]

My personal fave was always the Bernel sphere concept with O'Niell and the Stanford Torus coming joint second place

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

djomally In reply to karanua [2012-04-19 21:54:57 +0000 UTC]

i dig the Bernal, but im not really sold on the whole sphere aspect. i mainly go for heavy geometry and rotating sections. idk some how to me it just feels right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

karanua In reply to djomally [2012-04-20 04:16:40 +0000 UTC]

its the shipping all that gas to fill a volume of a cylinder 20 miles long that gives me major reservations about the oneil colonies also that huge area of transparency is just a hit me sign for micrometeoroids. Structurally I have to agree that the oneill concept is by far the strongest looking but theres nothing at all in geometry stronger than an unbroken sphere.
