Well I really felt sorry for Hermione in the 4th book when Ron said "Hey Hermione! You are a girl!". I thought, oh my gosh, how stupid could Harry and Ron be? Then when they saw her at the Yule Ball, their jaws dropped open and it finally hit them that Hermione is not a boy, she's a girl. So I drew this for fun, that since first year after the troll incident Harry and Ron let Hermione hang out with them as one of the boys, and then in second part, after all those years of hiding her girlish figure under a cloak, Harry and Ron surprisingly see that she grew curves. And that scene always reminds me of my redheaded friend Kenny from high school. He used to make stupid remarks about how I was "cute, but not hot" and other crap, while he chased other girls at school and acted like a huge jerk.

And to be frank...although people know that Hermione was a girl from teh first book, I'm fairly certain it isn't hard to imagine her character being somewhat guy-like. She has the attitude when she wants to.

Rowling writes the Trio in a gender-neutral way. If you ignore the Ron/Hermione romantic plot tumor, Hermione could have easily been a boy.
Harry and Ron being attracted to her is just their hormones speaking.

I'm the only girl in my High School Marching Band's Drumline, so this was 10x's more awkward than it was for Hermione :S
