This is so awesome!  Do you have any advice when working with acrylic?

First off, if you are working off a raw canvas, it should be primed with gesso, which kind of acts a bit like plaster. Some canvas are primed, so they don't need to be applied with gesso.

Also, acrylic is water soluble so it can act like water color when diluted with water but acts like oil without water.

I don't exactly have "professional advice" to give. I am completely self-taught and pretty much work off of "instinct". When mixing colors, you should use a palette knife, not a brush.

Acrylic dries relatively quickly. About an hour. Make sure you get a variety of brushes. Having a couple of ultra-fine brushes are useful for some detail work.

I literally referred to this before buying supplies and starting to paint: painting.about.com/od/acrylicp…

How did I get into acrylics? It all started with as a gift to my parents. I decided to do something a little special by doing an acrylic painting for them. I thought it was gonna be super hard or something. It turned out that it wasn't too difficult and was a nice change of pace from digital stuff.
