I'm not a big fan of hippies because they're a little too weird for my taste even though I do have some friends that are hipsters but are not as weird as those kind.

Hippies and hipsters are two totally different things, despite sounding similar.
Hippies are characterized by a hyper-progressive anti-war, pro-drug, and conservationist political agenda.
Hipsters are characterized by an oblivious distaste for things that are popular, love for obscure culture, and a lack of self-awareness as they plead for attention.
... Though that second descriptor may be biased. I don't like hipsters.

Being a hipster, as far as I know, doesn't actually suggest a political orientation. There's no particular reason hipsters would naturally lean liberal, progressive, or conservative (though they tend to be anti-consumerism).
