Description
This is a model of a ship from the Fading Suns [link] universe. This model is based on concept art by John Bridges and Kathy Schad, which you can see here: [link]Please note that I do not have any connection with the publishers of the Fading Suns game materials, and the underlying concepts of Fading Suns starships are not my intellectual property.
Please credit me and leave a comment here if you use this model - but also be aware that the context of the model is not a universe over which I have any authorship.
The preview picture is a "serving suggestion" only.
Please note that the model IS supposed to be asymmetrical in the forward section.
The zip file contains the following, with the intention being that the model should be as modifiable as possible by end users:
A Sketchup file of the model
A Blender file of the model
An OBJ file of the model
A VUE file of the model, textured and lit as seen in the preview
Hopefully, this model retains enough of the spirit from the concept art to be useful.

Looks very much like Fading Suns has died a death, its not featured at all on the site you link to in your notes. It may of course have changed publisher.

Maybe it has died. It's official presence certainly seems to have dropped off the Net. Odd that Digger hasn't said anything about it.

Ah! I am very glad that you were able to get the model working for you.
I do most of my major geometry in Sketchup, because I like the ability to draw directly on the faces of the model. I use Blender for cleanup, file translation, and UV mapping.

Wings 3D has a lot of fans. I'm not really into "box modeling" myself, but there are lots of artists on DA that can take a simple primitive and turn it into anything. Pretty stunning stuff!

Hrm. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything specific. You might want to look up , as I think he's a Wings 3D guru (unless he's moved on to another tool).

i have a problem: i don't know how to import these files to bryce let alone open them. everytime i do my system says that it's a generic function. what am i doing wrong? please tell me.

Hi Boot Cheese!
To the best of my knowledge, the only file that Bryce will be able to use successfully is the OBJ. Everything else, (except, perhaps, for the PNG files) is not Bryce-readable. Also, in general, using the menu option for import (as opposed to drag and drop) is something I try when things behave oddly.
Also, when decompressing the zip file, you will want to make sure that nothing "odd" is happening to the output - like it being wrapped in another file type, specially encrypted, or anything else. This may seem farfetched, but strange things do happen from time to time - and sometimes simply by accident!
I hope you can get some of this geometry working for you!

so do i. someone else told me that not only is the obj file compatible with bryce but also 3ds, max and lwo aren't. i've been having a difficult time with all this. even winrar files are a pain in my ass to open. i first found out about this on [link] and they had models and links to sites that have meshes for me to download and one of the links was to a star trek site. all the files are rar and they had a link to winrar to open the files but i think i need money to pay for that which i can't afford at the moment and i'm afraid to use that because it's an exe file and i'm afraid to get a computer virus.

You should try 7-zip. I think (notice that I said, "I think") it can handle RAR files, and it was free the last time I checked.

yeah thanx. i found the winrar site instead of the other one but they could've been a safe site as well. i downloaded the program and i also found the import object option in the file menu. i tried that before i downloaded winrar but to no avail, and i used your file which has an obj file in it. it was a zip now that i think about it because i converted it to a zip file. for some reason it was an adobe photoshop elements file and i obviously can't open it with that!

Wonderful work mate
will be very handy as reference for me if you don't mind. I am just getting started in 3D modeling and love sci-fi.

Thanks! I certainly would be quite glad if it turns out to be a good reference for you - I think that's another role of resources that get posted on DA.

Thank you! Although, in truth, real credit goes to the concept artists, John Bridges and Kathy Schad. They have the good idea - I just turn it into a 3d object.
