Oh yeah? I was just trying to get it to look like most worms I've digged up. Most are kinda dark in the front and lighter in the back.
Thanks. It was kinda hard to figure out how to put bat wings on a earthworm but it works.

it does. it really looks like they're s'pose to be there. i know what i was thinkin of now. the rainbow serpent. it's an aboriginal legend from the dreamtime. the rainbow serpent brings water to the land and carves out the rivers. i read it in a book somewhere. can't remember the exact story, but it's a good one.

ok here goes. Goorialla ( dunno if i spelled it right) went all over Australia lookin for his own tribe. he made a big red mountain called Nuralullgan. (erxt
) but when he listened to the people who spoke there, they didn't talk like him so he went away and made a gorge. he travelled a long way and his tracks made rivers and streams as he went. then he made two more mountains (ack! i hope i got this right, i'm really pushin it.) Niradunga and Miralinha. here he found his people and was happy. two brothers called Bilbil, (
) the rainbow lorikeets were lookin for shelter cause there was a big storm comin. they asked their mum the star woman. but she had too many dogs. so they asked Goorialla and he opened his mouth and swollowed them. he knew his people would be upset cause he'd eaten the brothers, so he went away. but the colors on his body, is from him swollowin the Bilbil brothers. when it rains, you can see Goorialla in the sky, hidin from his people cause of what he'd done. sometimes he sleep on the ground on the Borabunaru (
) mountains. but he won't stay there cause his tribe might find him and kill him. thats why when it rains he goes up into the sky. thats it. i probably have the names messed up. givin i'm as far away from aboriginal as you could get. but i did me best. it's an interestin story hey? studied it in school.

Sweet... Wow, I sure didn't know that stuff. Crazy. Very interesting. Origin stories are so interesting. Got to dig them. You studied that in school? That's cool. Now that's some origin story I can get behind. More interesting that just "God created everything in 7 days".

true. there are others like the one about nula (i think that was his name?) the rat and how he got bangarra, the blue tounge lizard to let the water out and stop the drought. cause all the animals were dyin of thirst. they are some really cool stories. guess you have some as well, from the native americans and mexicans and that too.

Bah, we don't get taught any of our natives stuff in school. Of course they aren't really looked at as our natives, so that may be a reason... Most mexicans are catholic, so you know how that goes. We get taught the ancient greek/roman stuff though... Eh.

ItheRook In reply to dmarteng [2007-01-27 23:22:13 +0000 UTC]
really? oh, i thought...doesn't matter what i think i guess. not thought of as the natives erxt! don't think i understand that one at all there...native american indians were there first though, weren't they? nah, don't understand. brain seizure. i think i saw a 'doco' that said summink about the mexicans bein catholic. yeah, i gets that. sad, cause it's the culture and traditions that really make a race who they are. all the stories and rituals are fascinatin. you have that day of the dead thing though right? or am i thinkin of cubans? or spanish? sorry.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
dmarteng In reply to ItheRook [2007-01-28 07:14:19 +0000 UTC]
Well, what I mean of that is that the american mentality is that we immigrated here. So our background is usually thought of the people who came here, usually from european countries (and in some cases africa). The natives were the enemy and the people who immigrated here had a lot of wars. So, even though the native americans were here first, they were part of building america. They had their own nations which we got rid off.
Oh don't worry, the mexicans have plenty of culture. There is a lot of difference from the mexican catholics and the regular roman catholics. Some of the traditions are mixes of catholic things and old native practices. Yeah, we have the day of the dead.

ah right. was havin a really slow brain day. feel a bit better today, so yeah i get you now. sorry. it's a pity really, cause the native americans make america stand out. i'm not talkin the cowby movies or anythin, but here, if you go to the markets and that, there are all of these beautiful tapestries and paintings, native american artworks and that. people just snap 'em up. but you can't help feel the 'real deal' would be so much better. apart from the empire state buildin, with the big monkey hangin off it, the statue of liberty and the white house. if you ask people here whats three things you think of when you think of america. one of thems gunna be "indians." know what i mean? the euro culture and backgrounds cool and all. but it runs a lot deeper and gives the kids a broader perspective of what 'the heart of the land' means. mind you, thats an aboriginal idea. dunno if the indians have exactly the same approach, but i think it does cross boarders. they do talk about the earth and the sky a lot, respect for the animals and that. so i'm guessin. hope i'm not misinterpretin it.
ah, i think i see it. like they took the religion and wrapped it round their culture. so from the outside they are doin the christian thing, but inside they still have their own religious identity. they hid it, thats all. like the people from New Orleans. christian based, but voodoo (can't remember the word, so replacin it with voodoo.) in origin. with the saints i mean. i think thats what i mean. ack! i'm talkin nonsense again, i can feel it. i saw summink on the day of the dead on a doco. wow, wish i could see it for real. maybe one day though. still considerin sellin up and travellin.

dmarteng In reply to ItheRook [2007-02-05 07:38:43 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah, their art is great. The tapestries are amazing. Lots of cool stuff.
Really? I didn't know the Native Americans were really identified so much with America. Yeah. Well. There were and are so many different tribes with their own culture and beliefs, it'd be hard for me to say they all have the same thought but in general they respect the land and the animals.
Eh sort of. It is kinda of a their own religious identity but the reasons why people do things differently are usually lost now to most people. I'd say it's more of a christian thing now than the original religions, and originally it probably was more of the original religions than christianity... if that makes any sense. Eh, I'm not sure the voodoo example is a good one... the christians are from voodoo and the voodoo isn't really connected to the christians. It never really got intregrated, as far as I can tell.

he was schitzophrenic weren't he? i'm sure it was him. in the end he had this obsession with the color yellow. he could never have enough yellow in his art. was it his brother, he sent out to buy all his paints and there was no more yellow in town at any art supplier, cause vincent had it all? i think i have the right one?
you know what i find disturbin? that in order for the rest of the world to know you have talent, you gotta go insane, become obssesive and irrational, cut off a body part and mail it to someone, then shoot yourself, cause you can't stand the voices in your head talkin so loud. know what i mean? and only then do people go. "wow! this guy's good. has he done anythin else?" and from your grave, all's you can say is, "pfft. now they tell me!"

I'm not sure if he was schitzo, but I believe you are right about the yellow. I think that is him.
Well that sure is true for Van Gogh. But you have to have talent to be recognized as a great artist. Look at Hitler. Tried to be an artist and sucked the big one. Took over a country, started a world war, killed a lot of people, went crazy, killed himself and his mistress. But no one thinks of him as a great artist.

maybe thats why he started the war. fustrated artist. sorry, bad joke. true, there's heaps of great art in here. gettin it out there and showin the world is really the key to success i think. if you can really grab their attention long enough for them to see, that is. some people don't take the time to really look long enough, they glance over it and go to the next one. you can't really do that. you have to stare at it for ages, before you grasp what it's sayin. like da vinci. if you look at his last supper at a glance, it's just a bunch of people round a table, havin dinner. but if you really stare at it, you begin to see the rest. the way they're all focused on the center of the picture, the position of each of the disciples. it's all "sayin" summink important and really it's askin you as the viewer to "hear "what that is.

Actually some scholars have thought that being rejected as an artist was one thing that fueled his rage.
Yeah that's true. Right place with the right time I think has a lot to do with it. Sometimes the right time comes after the artist is dead, which is a same but there are others that are realized when they were still alive, Michelangelo, Warhol, Wysocki, Kinkade, etc.
Ohhh, Da Vinci. He was a master. Far superior to most artists, and more than an artist. He was a technician, designer, engineer. He had a desire to know everything about his subjects and had the mind to do it. His designs for a lot of things work great. A lot of his stuff that was just looked at as drawings were actually partical machines that could be built based on his designs. Although most of his technical drawings were ignored as art for a long time. His paintings were amazing too. So much emotion, and meaning.

this is true. michelangelo has to have the largest canvas in the world, in the sistine chappel. now there's publicity. course the bigger the piece is, does not neccesarily mean you're gunna get famous. i'm not sayin that. just pointin out that sometimes an artist may feel he has to make as big a statement, just to be noticed. mona's pretty small in reality. not that many would think so, seein her on the telly a lot as she is. some artists though are never known. i wonder how many there are?
yeah. he invented shit loads of stuff. tanks, planes, submarines. and had time to play around with practical jokes and stuff. he was kind'a like the albert einstein of the time. his pic of the man, (can't remember what it's called.) thats a really amazin picture. all the detail in the muscles. wow!

Ah, but Michelangelo was commissioned to do the sistine chappel. He had to do a lot of stuff before he got to do that, but he's the most famous for that and david.
You're talking about Vitruvian Man. Great drawing. One of the best. Did you know that he didn't really care for the way humans looked? Thought they were vulgar or something. He did think felines were devine looking though, masterpieces of nature.
