This is really amazing. What a patience you must possess. How long did it take to make this? Is there any particular reason you chosed walnut?

Thanks, and yes, it feels like it takes forever! I get the time question a lot, and I wish I had timed myself, but I'd guess like 15-20 hours, maybe, I'm really not sure. As for The wood I chose, I like walnut because it is relatively easy to cut, it smells good, I love the color (and for the project I've seen the same box done in maple or cherry, and I thought it would look better in a darker color), and the place I buy it from sells it pre0cut into thin lumber (which saves time).

Thanks! I'm relatively new too, actually, only a few years, and I made the box a couple of years ago. Welcome to woodworking! It's a lot of fun!
As for the process, Yes, patience is involved. I get asked how long it takes, and to be honest I haven't timed myself so I'm not sure. Time flies though. I can't even imagine myself being that good with a chisel; I made this box with a scrollsaw, which is basically a coping saw that has power. You drill a hole everywhere on the pattern you want to cut out, and thread the blade through and cut out the holes one by one. Scrollsaws go for anywhere from $250-$500 is what I've seen, I have a cheaper one and it works fine, I guess.
I'm glad you like my work! have fun with your new hobby!

Hopefully I can do this as a job someday but for now it's wood machining, started building my own workshop, this is very inspirational and I have come back to it many times just to give inspiration and "push" for woodworking. Hopefully I will have a scroll saw soon and can show you how your work inspired it .
