My Super Mario Bros. piece has always gotten a great reaction-- that is by far my most popular, commented drawing. I had a lot of fun working on that piece, and always wanted to do some sort of follow up. So I began working with something similar-- the characters of Super Mario Bros. 2 reworked in my own style. There are far more characters in this piece, and much more focus on the environment-- more so than I think any drawing I have ever worked on. I put hours and hours working on the details of this piece, making sure that optimal viewing was at 18"x24". So, needless to say, I think that the small internet version you see here takes away quite a bit.
I'm pretty happy with it. To be honest-- I'm kinda happy to be done with it. I have some other ideas floating around in my head, and I needed to get this done first!

Quite a realistic interpretation of SMB2.
Considering the concept and style, I say it's pretty good. And let's not forget your talent with photoshop, which I believe completed the image.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy and often argue that American SMB2 shouldn't count as a Mario game since it wasn't one in Japan, but this piece is done in such a fashion that I feel your realistic interpretation is right on the mark. The landscape, the characters (I particularly like the Sniffits, Shyguys and Birdo are amazing, and Mario's expression, with the door potion in hand. It makes me wonder what is in his mind, and what his steely resolve is driving him to do. I think I'm going to go play it now, and imagine the game as if it were in your world you've created.

I actually had some ideas based off of Mario 3 that I was playing with for a while... but as for right now they're kinda on the backburner. Maybe someday, though

I have thought about Zelda before... but to be honest... it just isn't as much fun. I mean-- nothing against the Zelda franchise itself-- because it's amazing. But the characters are already defined in a fairly adult atmosphere (at least the last handful of games... minus Wind Waker) so I don't feel like I have as much room to throw in my own interpretation. The Mario games are so fun because, aside from just my childhood connection, I can take these basic templates of characters and just kinda head into left field with them... you know?
Anyway, I do hope to dive into some SMB3 territory at some point, but we're probably a few months out, at least

Words can't describe how amazing this is. It looks dark, but still the fantasy world that makes Mario who he is. You should make a third one!
