Solanum class transport ship, built by Venerians as a larger, longer range addition to Siligo class ships. A design improved by the addition of robotic arms for cargo manipulation, and adjustable scaffolding for cargo storage. Made with more modern techniques, and low weight construction, they proved to be a reliable design, which stayed in service for a long time. They are outspeed by many ships within the Solar System, however, because of their large numbers and low maintenance, they are no where near their retirement.

Originally they where made to exploit a growing food market on the far away moon, Titan, a trip that was inconvenient for entrepreneurs who conducted their trade on Siligo class ships. For the same reason, this ships are usually carrying an orbiter with them, since the same orbiter can assist with bringing cargo/personnel from Venus, and conduct a delivery on Titan, whereever the buyer may be. Naturally, different types of support vehicles can be carried depending on where the buyer is, all with the goal of simple universal deliveries, and payment retrievals.

While in service, their owners started using them in more creative ways, often positioning them to serve as a mobile marketplace, where cargo can be exchanged by other smaller ships, a role which used the ships several cargo manipulation arms. Another role would be to discard the cargo trade entirely, and instead modify the arms to provide assistance and maintenance to damaged ships. And yet another role would be to go straight to salvaging wrecks, a potentially very profitable option, however dangerous at the same times, since wrecks are usually a sign of pirate activity. No external defenses are carried on board, so they usually remain close to patrol routes, as they are attractive targets for pirates.

With 3 months of acceleration needed to achieve their best drifting speed(and 3 more months to lose it), these ships are best used for long range deliveries. For that reason Crews on them tend to be well compensated for long trips, and efforts are made to make interiors comfortable, as much as space and weight limits allow. One tenth of g is provided by two sections mounted on top of a spinning ring, however, those sections are less useful while not under acceleration, since at those times, it is much more convenient to "cartwheel" the entire ship and create a more well spread sensation of gravity.

Your spacecraft has spawned a discussion on Winchell Chung's G+and we were interested in your input. There are aspects of your world building in your fictional setting that I'm not sure I really understand, so if you would like to join the discussion it is here: plus.google.com/u/0/+WinchellC…

Unfortunately not everything I do is thoroughly developed, so I'm sure there are many deficiencies in these designs and their backgrounds(though I am trying to improve), but I always appreciate any interest I get, so yeah I'll gladly join in!

I really do appreciate your invite, but generally I'm very unaccustomed to using social media(G+ especially), even though I'm becoming more and more aware just how hindering that is nowadays. So while I did like to read the discussion there, and add my bit to it, it will take some more time till I get myself to be more active on social media.
