Seriously?

elementary OS = Linux Distribution
AWN = Avant Window Navigator = DOCK
Conky = system monitor
Wingpanel-Slim = the to panel (no longer available)

Google would have been your best friend in this instance.

How do you get this theme to work? I run it in terminal and it says I don't have your home/dobbie/Music directory and even after I change them to the directory system I have on my Elementary OS it still comes up with that error in files I can't find? Furthermore every time I edit a file another one disappears?
I am so confused

Still wondering how to reproduce this on my own machine. The Conky part is overly complicated or just in general broken.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ryan-k-mckee [2013-09-30 06:00:42 +0000 UTC]

This is a wonderful setup. I first encountered it from the lifehacker website. While I was able to reproduce most everything exactly, I seem to be having trouble with conky. I'm a complete newbie to Linux and especially conky. Could you please explain step by step how to reproduce the conky configuration you have shown in the screen shot or what I need to do to install and configure it like such? I'm totally lost as a confused uneducated individual.

Dobbie03 In reply to ryan-k-mckee [2013-09-30 06:36:49 +0000 UTC]

Hey thanks for the kind words.Β  I am assuming you have downloaded my Conky script.

First up, make sure you install curl, in your terminal "sudo apt-get install curl" with out the quotes.

Next, unzip the compressed Conky file.Β  Copy the files in that file to your home folder, if you can't see them, ctrl+h shows any hidden files.

Make sure you install this font, just download it and double click it. www.google.com/fonts/specimen/…

Right click on the file named .conky.sh, select Properties and under the Permissions tab tick the box for Execute.

Double click the .conky.sh file to make my config start.Β  If you want it to start at login, add the file by going to your Startup Programs, click add, name it Conky, in the command click browse, then navigate to your home folder, and select the .conky.sh file, if you can't see it, ctrl+h to sow hidden files.

That should be it.

Let me know if you get stuck

I'm lost...

I don't have a .conky.sh file even after I unhide the files

Also the link to the font only takes me to a website with no download option; I'm using Chromium and Midori

again, no .conky.sh file

Have you downloaded this fileΒ dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68… ?

Yes, I've downloaded the file dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68…

as for the font file it's a zip file, where do I place it or extract it to?

Dobbie03 In reply to ryan-k-mckee [2013-10-02 05:15:17 +0000 UTC]

Extract to wherever you downloaded to, just double click the font file and it will ask to install.

ryan-k-mckee In reply to ryan-k-mckee [2013-09-30 07:43:27 +0000 UTC]

I looked over some of the previous coments and saw where you suggested making the .conky.sh file; I'm confused about this, do I need to modify it to reflect my own home or do I leave it like it shows in the coments, also a quick "conky --help" reveals a "-C >" switch and not a "-c" switch, should I adjust that too or leave it as in the comments (is this a hidden switch?)

I managed to get some of it to work, like the stats at the bottom, but I don't see the time or weather at all. How can I fix this resolve it?

I love this. Can that icon set be used in plank or do you have to install AWN in elementary for it to work? Also how do you install that weather conky in elementary (I downloaded conky & conky manager but for some reason it doesn't load up) if you don't mind helping me. THanks.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dobbie03 In reply to ohaiohaiohai [2013-08-14 19:39:59 +0000 UTC]

I just used AWN, I'm not a fan of Plank and I'm not sure you can customise it to the extent you can with AWN.
In regards to the conky, there is a link to the config further down the comments, download that and extract, put the files in your home folder.Β  Make sure the .conky.sh file is executable, install curl (sudo apt-get install curl) and add the .conky.sh to your start up programs.Β  Double click the .conky.sh file to fire up conky.

No I don't think so, put this into a new file and save as .conky.sh

sleep 20 &&
conky -d -c /home/dobbie/.conkyrc &

Make sure you make it executable.
