mannn, i so wish i could convey space as you do. fantastic work. my planets suck compared to yours lol

But you've only just begun! Trust me, I've made plenty of sloppy planets and yours are actually pretty good
Thanks for the kind words

A very energetic, and dynamic piece. As space images are something I quite appreciate, you'll get an even more extensive critique than I usually give. Consider yourself doom (or lucky, whatever you like).

As usual, I'll start off with the stuff I feel could use some more work. And more than anything, I'd be speaking of the fractal. While I realise this is a popular way to depict space phenomonae, it's also rather unrealistic. A supernova topically forms a ring around the core of the star, brighter in some places, darker in others. Never, though, have I seen an images of a supernova that involved bursts of fluorescant gasses shooting at random angles. It gives it a rather wild, random look, instead of the immense, yet controlled power a supernova tends to resemble.

Another thing is that the planets seem to be lit in a very similar way, despite the fact that they appear to be lit by a shared lughtsource and all seem to be in a different perspective from it. Also, a bit morecolor on the planets would definitely help in making it kore convincing.

Finally, the nebula on the bottom left seems to be too static. A bit more dinamyc swirls wouldn't hurt it, and perhaps improve the dynamic flow you've got going on.

The starfield, though, is lovely. The color variety is just right, and the brightness/size fluctuation is very fitting for the composition. It givews it all a very nice backdrop, which helps the composition without immediately screaming for attention.

As for the piece itself, especially comibined with your comment it's a lovely symbol of hope, and as said before, it leaves a very dynamic, moving feeling. If you'd decide to work on this again, i'd love to see what you make out of it.

i like this one too.. the combination of appophysis and the space looks great. A bit work on the planet texture would be needed but beside that, very nice

DocDan In reply to Tari-Idril [2006-11-13 00:20:07 +0000 UTC]

hahaha! Thank you much!!
I did this almost entirely in Photoshop. The fractal was done in Apophysis. Textures from my camera helped me as well

The little nebula at the bottom right has a nice feel to it, it looks painted

Yeah, I changed it a few times. I wasn't very happy with how it was composed. It's much better now, but I may still do some tweaking

The only thing that bugs me is the composition...a little blah.

Otherwise, I like it...very nicely done. Stars and planets look good.

DocDan In reply to space-time [2006-11-12 06:12:33 +0000 UTC]

Sorry to kinda double-post, but I ended up revamping the composition anyway (for reasons you can find on gfxforums). Your suggestion only further motivated me to change it . I hope you like it more

Thanks!

Almost all of the work was done in Photoshop, besides for the fractal which began in Apophysis.
