I've done some experimentation, and here's a version I think looks a bit better: gfycat.com/IdioticRemoteIcefis…
The biggest issue is finding a good place to loop the gif so things don't look too abrupt. I've been playing with slowing parts of the gif down to partly correct for this, but there are only so many frames to work with.
