Description
It was time to do a personal piece in between commissions so I could get myself back on track and feelin' cool. I had been wanting to do something based on the Pirate-Queen's stock from this series for some time now (a series that has been online as stock and then gone again, so I have no direct link), as she has such a great look and this costume is sexy yet innocent, and I love drawing lace. What started off as a 'I'll just drop in some celtic designs and color it' project became a headache, then a revelation. I found new ways to mix designs and, more importantly, digitally paint. I only hope it transfers well to online viewing, so please, full-size.Pen & Ink version: [link]
Colors in Adobe Photoshop 7, along with a few textures added.

i'm biased because i love dragons, but i can't believe someone would find it a distraction in this picture. what makes this picture for me is the fact that even though it looks to me like she's looking off into the distance, very distracted and lost in thought, the dragon is looking right at her. i love it.

I decided not to say it before, but the dragon is really a serious turn off. However, the woman is so well drawn that it become just an annoying detail. But now whe have photoshop, noting prevents you from fixing it in the future, what do you say?

I think your color choices are right on, and I agree with others that the careful approach to that lace is masterfully done. Great work, Scott!

I love the different colors in the skin of the girl. I wish the dragon head had a bit more texture in it. The colors are a good choice but he's seems a little flat. Check out [link] She's really great with texture.

Thanks - always nice to hear from you. The dragon could have been more detailed, agreed, but I guess I was more interested in the dress
