Description Another in the 'Lost Places' series.

My friend Pink posed for this one; Took the shot of her and the old firetruck a month or 2 back and married the shot with the Copper Star Coffeehouse, one of my fave downtown Phoenix locations to create this little 'timeles' piece. The Copper Star is, obviously, converted from an old gas station. My buddy TJ's store, Revolver Records, is the building whose corner can be seen in the background.

Tried a few techniques with this in an attempt to be sparing in detail and time. Like P-51 Blues, I wanted this to get the idea and place across without getting too nutty on detail. Overall it turned out I think.

Pen & ink (micron) on strathmore 400 paper, 9x12 (cropped)

Nice pen and ink work, Doc! Your expertise makes me want to dust off the old Rapidograph set!

Very cool Doc! This is the type of stuff I was supposed to be doing when I was drawing cars. However the detail and year accuracy the old guys went for just gave me too much of a headache. This looks real nice. I like her care-free pose.

Thanks... yeah, history buffs and year-specific details can be a real pain...

Lookin' good, Scott. A great edition to a collection of good work. The black on that truck sure gives it a solid depth.

Thanks; Yeah, I really loved the black on this one too. I was going for somehting simpler in terms of some detail and form, and the blacks were really necessary for it.
Thanks again, man!

I love it, your so great with a pencil. I can only hope some day I might be half as good as you.

This picture is beautiful, I love the old fashion quality, and the concept behind it. Two gold stars.

Thanks very much. I really enjoy the old-fashion stuff, too, but actually its pen & ink, not pencil. Still, I'll take the gold stars and run back home to ma and show 'em off!

Truly a timeless piece. With the truck and her clothing it could very easily be an illustration done for a magazine in the late 40's or early 50's or a nostalgia piece done in the 21st century. Very nice work from you as usual.

Thanks - that's exactly the look and feel I am inspired by and am going for. Then there is no greater compliment.
