EDIT - kinda new. Starbolt Trixie looks weird-ishAha! I can fit a quad pony into Wario's Sprite Size!

Ok Ok, so hear me out really quick.
Rom Hack. Trixie Land, Super Fluttershy Land 3
Ok ok, bullet points
1) Wario Collected Coins. Trixie is collecting magic orbs
2) Wario got hats. Trixie gets new magic hats, and possibly capes/armor to go with them. One gives extra jump and also allows to hang on ceiling (if I remember) - one gives fire breath and one allows flight. So I'm thinking something warrior magicain style, something dragon-based in design and something pegasai-based in design. The dragon one's flame could be resprited and that hat could be reinterpreted further
3) The treasures are now items of magical significange. Anything Twilight has encountered in her travels. A dragons moustache, the team leader's winter wrap up vest, a slice of the M.M.M. I can't remember if WL1 has a gallery of treasures with write-ups. I HOPE SO
4) Twilight plays the role of Captain Syrup, what with the zany robots and all
this last bit here, I'm not entirely sure, but if it makes you giggle
5_ Syrup's pirate minions are now books. Walking, attacking books

oh 6) charge is now magic charge and ground pound is magic dive
think, of the possibilities
and it's Trixie Land to be contiguous with SFL2 rom hack

Might be hard to get Syrup looking like Twilight, but you can definitely have the genie be a greed-infused Spike...
Also, Trixie could still collect coins. She does need the money, since she lost her cart...

you're right, syrup is pretty tiny, but when in those machines it may work, if the sprite is considered as a whole. Or, am I thinking about WL2? gotta do some research, or just play the game again

Yeah you must be remembering 2, in 1 you only see Syrup at the very end in her creepy exploding skull tower.
A sprite swap for 2 might be another challenge, but coming up with Trixifications of all of Wario's forms might prove... difficult.

Maybe flat Wario could be just her squished hat with eyes peeking out? Everything would be thematically possible, but having to make all the sprites would be very time-consuming. And of course there's the matter of color to think of (presuming you're doing the GBC port).
