So, I was in somewhat of a nostalgic mood, which made me watch Star Trek, which made me think of how much I've always loved it, which made me think of this guy. Lol.

He was my very first RPing Char ever!
It must be, like, somewhere way back in 1999 when I first got introduced into the joys of the internet. ;3
Back then I was very much into Star Trek: TNG and so joined a german RPG page. It was way too complicated for me back then, I gotta admit, because these guys were all real Trekkies and I, well, was not. Lol.

At some point I dropped out of the thing, but Layout here still stayed a very dear char of mine. I RPed him again a couple of times and had his background story adapted a couple of time, matching the most recent movies.

Right now his story goes like this:
He is one of the two remaining android prototypes that Soong created before B-4, then Lore, then Data. He was at some point found in pieces on the abandoned Omicron Theta by some Ferengi traders, those took him far away, trying to sell him, but not succeeding, because nobody knew what to do with those robot pieces.
Eventually the Ferengi ended up running into a Borg scoutship, those attacked and assimilated the crew of the Ferengi ship and found Layout in pieces.

Fascinated they worked hard to reactivate him and with a bunch of Borg technologies being used they actually managed to activate Layout on a pretty high level, making up for his originally pretty simple prototype programming by Soong, like B-4 also had had it.

They studied him (which was always my personal explanation for the Borg Queen knowing so much about Data's functions and stuff in First Contact. ;3), but when they tried to put flesh onto his positronic skeleton, he decided it was time to leave. Mostly because unlike Data he actually is completely and utterly content with being a machine without emotions and so found the prospective of human flesh sticked to him quite, well, pointless.

He took the Borg by surprise, broke their ship and left with the rests of it. Ever since then he's been traveling space mostly making his living as an engineer for broken spacecrafts.

I also remember I had a fic once, where (after Data 'died') LaForge and Riker had their shuttle broken and went to some spaceport where they ran into Layout, who was meant to repair their ship, and in turn scared them nearly to death. He then helped them solve the mission and stayed with the Enterprise for some time, before traveling on.

Like I said, he's utterly fine with being a machine as well as with the fact he lacks any real emotion. It might have to do with the fact, he never lived with humans for very long and was, like, 40% made by the Borg, who aren't exactly known for their kind nature either. He however is curious, patient and gentle, like Data. His core programming makes him value life above everything and he would always jump the bullet for any living creature. He has no desire to be like them though, but finds it more interesting to just watch the humanoids from the view of a neutral third party. ;3
