“There you are…” Zuko looked up from the rock he just had been pushing, when he heard his uncle’s voice. A little snort escaped him, when he saw the little stag waddling closer. Ever since his cousin, the father of his betrothed, had died the little stag had begun to act especially pushy and annoying and Zuko and him already had had a number of arguments concerning Zuko’s view on how to live his life and that of his uncle, who obviously was not understanding anything, but trying to push his stupid idle lifestyle on him. Zuko really didn’t know what his problem was however. He treated Kinnera polite and with respect, he had allowed her to bring her strange old guard and choose her own hoodmaidens, she had the whole glade at her disposal and was allowed to pretty much go wherever and do whatever she wanted – Zuko knew there were princesses who were kept on a lot stricter terms and with a lot more expectations than the sweet, but daft wife he hadn’t been able to avoid any longer without risking harsh consequences from his father after the disaster with Princess Hildegarde.

“Uncle.” Zuko just said, lowering his head again to give the rock another push and signal his uncle he was in anything but the mood to listen to his rantings about how he needed to get to know Princesses Kinnera, how he needed to give her a chance, how he had been lucky to be blessed with Princesses Adele and how she had become the light of his life and that because she had given him a chance turning both their lives into something like a stupid romantic story fillies told each other, just that his uncle was an ugly little cripple and no handsome dark her like usually in these stories.

“What are you doing, if I may ask?” Alberich asked, stopping beside Zuko.

“Training.”

“Yes…now I wonder…why you are training and not…I don’t know…spending time with your wife?”

Zuko looked up, a frown on his face, he had known his uncle wouldn’t stop.

“She is fine. She is with her guard.”

Alberich sighed in something between frustration and upset, “Zuko…Kinna loves Feddle like a second father, but he’s not what she really needs right now. She needs her husband.”

“She never said so.”

“Because you hardly talk to her or listen to her for that matter.”

“I am very respectful.”

“You are well-mannered and treat her good, I’m not saying anything against that, but you’re aloof and distant and you leave her alone all the time. That’s not what she needs, that’s not what she deserves.”

“What am I supposed to talk to her about? About flowers and her silly glitter getting everywhere?”

“She is a sweet and kind young doe and she has an insight and kindness that you could learn very much from…”

Zuko gave a sarcastic snort, rolling his eyes, which made Alberich’s ears fold back.

“Okay. Enough.” The little stag said with a stomp of his short little leg, Zuko however lifted his head, ears folding back as he looked down at his uncle glaring up at him with an expression he couldn’t recall he had seen on the usually kind and gentle short stag before – anger.

“Now you listen, you spoiled little prick – Kinnera is an absolutely lovely doe! She is sweet, smart and empathetic. She just recently lost her beloved father and now also her mother…”

“Princess Myrna was kidnap…”

“OH SHUT UP! She ran away, like all these other princesses did! They run away and to some point I can even understand them – I can’t understand why Princess Myrna did it, but it’s none of my business why she ran away from a perfect life like a coward and an idiot instead of taking responsibility, but what I care about is you and Kinna! This poor little doe lost everyone and instead of her husband supporting her he’s pushing rocks around or leaving her alone for days chasing some imaginary princess in the Glenwood!”

“She exists! I saw her! More than once!”

“ZUKO! Do you even hear yourself? This so-called princess is likely just some commoner girl that you keep harassing, because you chase after made-up things like a little colt! You are no colt anymore!”

“Then why does she keep running away!”

“Because she’ll probably damn scared of some insane stag yelling and coming after her like a demented Blackwood every time he sees her! Zuko, you need to stop this! You are a stag, you need to start acting like a stag! You can’t forever hunt some colthood enigma – you have a wife now who need you! Who truly needs you, unlike some silly made-up mystery princess!” Alberich yelled.

“YOU SHUT UP! SHE IS REAL AND I – I – WHAT IF I DON’T NEED A WIFE! WHAT IF I’M NOT READY YET!” Zuko suddenly screamed right back at Alberich, taking a few steps back, his breath heavy as he looked down at Alberich wild-eyed and full of confusion, fear and panic.

“Zuko..please…Zuko…don’t run away on me now. Don’t do what you always do…” Alberich tried gently, yet it seemed too late.
“I will show you! I will find her and I will bring her back and you’ll all see!” the young prince whispered and with that spun around and raced off. Alberich waddled after him for a few steps, yet he knew it was useless. A long sigh escaping him as the dark stag vanished in the foliage. What had he done…
