Description Another pick of the classic Shadow Hawk.

The model is based on a Revoltech vinyl figure of a mech from the anime Dougram.  It is about 5.25 inches tall.  The silver paint never really came out right, vinyl is like that sometimes.

These are from an old idea I had to make a fan webcomic about Battletech.  It detailed the adventures of a very small but well equipped group of mercenaries as they try to make the universe a better place and constantly fail to make money (not that they seem to need it with their seemingly insane benefactor/captain/chief tech who somehow always has their heavily customized mechs fixed before they wake up the next day).

I remember this model... my brother had one. Painted it green, white and black and use a hot pin to make bullet hits. Cool stuff!

"a very small but well equipped group of mercenaries as they try to make the universe a better place and constantly fail"

Which is remarkably like the actual plot of Dougram, if one replaces 'mercenaries' with 'guerrillas.'

It's all good!    mistakes are the precious source of life - without them, we'd all be rubberstamped for doom

Was it the actual model kit or the vinyl Revoltec figure like this one?

Probably the original kit... this was in like 1986, so....

Yeah, that would be the kit.  I used the Revoltech figure for it's posability and similar scale to my other battlemechs even though the vinyl is harder to work with.

Just need to soften it and then primer - Steam works good for that, just to soften it up enough for a repose, then have to remodel it fast before it hardens again - and never douse it in cold water or stick it in the freeze otherwise you will get a crack in it or a piece will break off. Then get some model spray primer and you are good to go! YeeeeeeAuh! >.<  You ever play ToyTech with that thing?

Nope, can't say I've played ToyTechwith it or really even Battletech proper.  I've played MechWarriow since MW2, read the novels, have the tech books, built models, etc, etc, but I could never get into the table top game.  I tried but it just never really did it for me ya'know?

As for the posing, the Revoltech figures have nice joints so heating was not needed.  This is the only one of 4 that had paint problems.  I dont think I primed it right when I made it a few years ago and the enamel silver never dried quite right.

Takes a lot of time to play and consumes your brain sort of like playing a more brutal version of chess... Rooks with LRM's and PPC fire! W00t!!!

Love the Cannon on that one though - its got a nice wide almost thumper-gun style to it, over the more narrow version you see with the more classic B-Tech pictures.

Yeah, I thought it would make a great Gauss Rifle, and this figure is mostly un-altered from Dougram, pretty much just a re-paint unlike my other mech models.

Also tried to re-make my own version in MechWarrior Online.  First off, $5.50 real life dollars to buy each color of paint?!?!  I Don't Think So!  Also couldn't really fit the Gauss on there without sacrificing something else I wanted.  (also doesn't look nearly as cool in the game)

Ya'know, the'd make a lot more money selling the colors for $1.  I would have bought at least 5.
