So? They also have human hands, human arms, mostly human legs, human torso, human breasts, a human facial expression, and human hair on their heads if the artist chooses to put it there. A good amount of furry/anthro characters are considerably more human than animal. It's really ridiculous, nit picking about a furry/anthro/whatever character having features their animal counterpart doesn't have. Anthropomorphic characters are conceptual in nature, so who is to say that a lioness can't have hair on her head if the artist wants to put it there?

I just feel that most anthros become increasing generic as times goes on to where you can't tell precisely what species they're supposed to have evolved from. Also it's a fun way to show 'done your research' and makes for more fun when a humanoid lioness mistakes a woman for a man because she has a 'mane.'

But having hair on top of the head as an anthro isn't really a mane so much as a head of human hair. And if the design is done well, no matter what's on top of the head you can tell what the species is. It would be more generic if no one ever drew a lioness with hair. :/ Everyone knows that lionesses don't have manes, giving long hair to your anthro lioness character doesn't mean you haven't "done your research," it just means that your preference is a head of hair. Just because you think it looks more realistic or true to the species to be bald doesn't mean that that's the "correct way" to draw that type of character. I will say, however, that a quadrupedal animal character looks ridiculous with hair most of the time.

They do in lion king. If humans have three arms instead of two us having two arms to people with three arms would seem as if we were missing something fundamental.

I believe you are advocating the freedom of creative expression and not for people to tell what other people do with their own hobby, I'm just saying that for me at least: a 'bald' lioness makes them MORE unique among anthros IMHO.

And if humans were supposed to have three arms but someone had two, it would be a unique oddity, just like a lioness with hair.

I've seen lionesses with hair, and without, and neither one looks more or less unique than the other, it's just a matter of taste and preference. There's more you can do with hair, in the way of styling and color, but a furry with no human hair might stand out more depending on the artist's style. I, personally, think it looks better with hair, but I'm not going to tell someone their drawing is "great, except the character should have hair."

I'm just saying the moment where the viewer thinks, 'Wait, why doesn't she have hair? Oh right, because she's a lioness!' Is nice a little bonus to them and it makes the viewer think for a couple extra seconds.
