2015-2021 yearly progression of my anthro style! Can't believe it's been 8 years since I first drew Shay.... we don't talk about 2014 Shay here.

Of my boyfriend's character, Shay... or well, what used to be his character back when we first got together a year before the first drawing here. It's been a few years since I've sat down and drawn his character as we're now both adults and we don't do a whole lot of the couple sketches I used to whip out like hotcakes back in the day, lol
anyway..... I've had a lot of artists, especially young artists, come to me asking for help or advice with their art as the thing a lot of beginner artists do is compare themselves to others. In a growing art community on Discord and wherever else, it's easy to find yourself trapped in this mindset of comparing yourself to artists in other servers or on social media. However, coming from someone who's been finding myself in this rut quite often, my advice to any young artists out there struggling: turn the comparison to inspiration. Instead of thinking, "their anatomy is so good, and mine is so bad", point out specific things in the piece that speak to you. Does the eye style of this artist appeal to you? Good, jot it down. Draw the hell out of that eye until you're sick of it. Eventually, you'll become so comfortable with drawing that eye that your own style will accompany it. It'll become something great.

I don't normally try to go on serious rants in captions lol but it's been such a common thing I've noticed lately! I hope this helps someone out there, and, if you feel that this struggle applies to you, please don't hesitate to reach out to me and talk it out:'D!
