Description The Republic of Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 332,529 and an area of 103,000 km2 (40,000 sq mi), making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The capital and largest city is Reykjavík. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate, despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle. Its high latitude and marine influence still keeps summers chilly, with most of the archipelago having a tundra climate.

Skógafoss is a waterfall situated on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. The Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country with a width of 25 metres (82 feet) and a drop of 60 m (200 ft). Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days.

Beautiful! I love waterfalls. How many waterfalls do you think you have seen? I did not write "photographed", because if you saw one, you probably shot it. Thanks for the eye candy.

I've seen a lot on Iceland and Norway, they were everywhere! I haven't photographed them all, usually just the bigger or more spectacular ones. Thank you for stopping by and leaving such a lovely comment!

You must have been here very early to not have any people in the shot. Unless you edited them out?

It was early, but not THAT early (like 9-10 am). There were 2 or 3 people standing closer to the water but I was able to remove them without damage to the photo.

Nice! Lucky you got it so quiet. I hiked up and over the glacier and then followed the river Skoga all the way down the mountain so skogafoss was my finishing point. By the time I got to it I'd lost count of the number of waterfalls so didn't pay this one that much attention!

haha I believe you! I only went up to check the view from the top of the waterfall My trip plan didn't include any big hiking trails. We were sleeping on the camping site near the waterfall so it was easy to go there early.

We had hiked over the bloody volcano with something like 1300m elevation and had walked about 18km by the time we got to Skogafoss so I was well and truly done by then! We had come through a fucking dust storm at the top too so we all looked like we had been at war - the tour buses of people at the falls were giving us some strange looks like "where have you lot been?"

We were supposed to camp there too but it was too busy so we moved sites down the road to the campsite near Seljalandsfoss (the falls you can walk behind). It was MUCH quieter and the girl operating the site was from Northern Ireland - which was weird
