Appearance/Mutations:

Matu inherited both his father and grandfather’s melanism, and has a first gen mutation of gigantism as well.

The light spots on Matu's nose are not genetic, but rather the result of bleaching himself as a cub. The pigmentation in his nose never fully returned and he lost his sense of smell in the process.

Personality:

+ Kind: Matu likes to help people and often tries too hard in the process.

+ Determined: He pushes himself to do his best. Whether it is in training, or trying to please others, Matu doesn’t know when to give up. When he sets his mind to something, he doesn’t give up on it easily.

+ Loyal: Once he makes a friend or ally, Matu is not going to betray them and will do all he can to keep them safe.

/ Sensitive: Matu can easily take things the wrong way. His mind plays tricks on him and exaggerates any reasonable doubts he may have. However, his sensitivity also makes him more understanding of others’ emotions.

/ Long Memory: Not as vindictive as his mother, Matu still has her long memory. He won’t go out of his way to get revenge on those who have wronged him, but he will not easily trust again and is more likely to turn his back on someone who has hurt him forever.

- Anxious: Matu, though sure of his actions, isn’t sure of himself. This may stem from his strained relationship with his mother and his feelings that he’s never really good enough.

- Sad: Matu isn’t a very happy cub. He isn’t sure why his mother looks at him differently than his brothers and sister. This may develop into depression later in life if certain things aren’t remedied.

- Clingy: Matu latches onto people easily. Hen someone is kind to him, he had a difficult time letting them go.

- Prone to Outbursts: Matu has been through a lot. He's been lied to, ostracized, neglected... Because of this he reaches the end of his rope/ runs out of patience more quickly than others. He hasn't struck someone yet, but that doesn't mean he won't.

Backstory:

Matu’s mother was captured by humans. While in their custody, she lost a lot of time. She was kept in an indoor enclosure, and was frequently sedated. After some time, she was moved to an outdoor enclosure where she finally managed to escape. She didn’t know it at the time, but the humans had done something to her in there, and because of it, Matu was born.

Matu’s father comes from a line of pyramid guardians. Though his line is not royal, it is ancient and noble. Pharaoh wishes deeply to return home and resume his guardianship, and knows nothing of his son, whose mother he never had a relationship with. They’d never even been kept in the same cage.

Vespyr gave birth to a 2-cub litter. The first was Kobali, Matu’s brother. He looked so much like his mother. Matu, however, the second cub, resembled his grandfather, the leopard Vespyr despises more than anyone else, even Mwalimu. Matu had the misfortune to inherit his father’s pelt and his mother’s green eyes, practically making him a clone of her father. Because of this, Vespyr has struggled to love her youngest son. She does her best, knowing deep down that he is not the one who hurt her so long ago, but his appearance unnerves her and she has to fight her instincts every time she looks at him.
