Description
I get notes asking how I design certain pieces, so I figure I'd put one together. But try as I might, I find that it's not so much a tutorial, as it is an insight into my thought process; Kind of "What Would DomNX do?"Forgive my misspellings and improper grammer. (I iz from American publik Skool systemm) Hey, that's why I'm an artist, not a novelist! Besides, what do you expect for 'Free?'

This is a good example of a How-to tut. Not only you focus on propaganda but it is a good basic for creating art digitally. Love it!!!

I wonder... is FreeHand project discontinued due eliminating Macromedia by Adobe? I use Adobe Illustrator, but I know FreeHand is very nice application and I just wonder what FreeHand users think about it?

Adobe bought Macromedia out probably to get rid of competition. They now own Flash, Fireworks and Dreamweaver (also by Macromedia). We're mad as hell!

I imagine... I look into adobe store they selling FreeHand MX and offer upgrade it to Illustrator CS3... what means that FreeHand MX probably was the last version.
offtopic: do you have german cockroaches in USA? Coz they all suddenly disappeared in Russia and that's really strange.

Yeah, saddly Freehand was officially "discontinued" almost a year ago, with Adobe trying to push everyone into Illustrator. Of course, it's not like our copies of Freehand are going to magically stop working or anything, until an OS upgrade with no backwards compatibility comes along. So as a user since Freehand 2, I plan to go on using it for a long time.

Atm I go to tafe learning some multimedia which we use freehand, I myself don't like freehand most of the class doesn't really nor the teacher. Mostly because were learning with a program that isn't used in this field or any other digital media field.
I find freehand alot harder then Illustrator... then again i don't really like both of them. But I do prefer illustrator.

I bet it would be damn hard to migrate into Illustrator. I am Illustrator user, but I have seen FreeHand and liked it, what I can not say about shitty Corel Draw. If I would be forced to migrate into FreeHand I would be mad...coz in little change of hotkey in new version I feel myself disbalanced... anyway there is some open source vector programms such as InkSpace, I think they should improve thier interface in a way FreeHand was.

The only thing I see missing is maybe an exploded view of the girls head or the speakers maybe, showing the different vectors that were used.
I assume that's what you did - I did a 2 color profile of a head, and there I made shapes that covered the shapes of a photo that I scanned. The basic outline of the head white, ear outline black, hair black, then stuck each layer one on top of the other and removed the photo.
Is that sort of what you do? How did you do the gradiants that outline the womans breasts and buttocks?

Very insightful.
I like the way you explain how you choose colours in this. I'd never thought of using that approach for choosing colours I've always done it just by feel, but the more I look at it the more I see how effective it is for picking strong effective colours especially with minimal colour schemes.
Nice work man.

I've been wanting to try propaganda posters since I saw your work. So thanks for this great tutorial.
In what program do you make your posters? I know this can be made in any vector program but I'm just interested what you work with.

Well, I won't do anything in vector, I guess, but I just have to approve of giving away the way one works in such a clean, short, understandable way.
So therefore !
Keep up the fight for good propaganda!
