Description
The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of theWinter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic
(path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to
resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. It will come to resolution at exactly 11AM GMT.
I did this one all in photoshop after a friend told me about what was apparently going to happen on this date... The end of the world. I read up on this event quiet a bit and then Ben and I came to the conclusion it was all a bunch of nonsence and was made up by some hippies. Anyway, I did a recreation and this is how it turned out!, Feedback welcome.

The Maya actually believed that time passed by in cycles. They believed that previous cycles of time existed before them and would continue to exist after them.
In reality, 2012 is when one cycle of time ends and a new one begins... not when the Earth blows to pieces or what not.
And yes, they did have a numerical system, but it is represented differently than what we are used to.

I don't think the end of the world will happen quite like how you've masterfully created it. The world isn't the actual planet, the world is what we as a race have created it to be, it's our world, our home. Whether we die or not won't change the fact the planet will move on without us. The world ending is essentially our civilization and other species suffering because of something dramatic (except for 2000 :/ People killing themselves because of computers not working was so stupid. It took people ages to work out all they had to do was update the bloody computers).
I belive some sort of huge event will happen, but the most logical is a pole shift, and apparently we're in the midst of one now, and it'll finish in 2020, so what they possibly mean is that by 2012 people will notice the pole shift's effects, like some areas near water will be under water (in other words the sea will take back what it claimed 100 years prior), and there'll be a few earth quakes in places prone to it.
If Yellowstone, located in America erupts, it'll mostly effect America and not the rest of the world.
Or the very worst. The reason 2012's winter thing will be bad is because of Planet X being in the way of the alignment and the earth has to rapidly shift the poles' position to get back in alignment, and it'll be so rapid, it'll cause problems. But that's if Planet X is a confirmed planet, unless Nasa continued on with the research of the original scientist and found out more about it. All I know is this Planet X (or nicely named Niribu, as there are many theorized planets called X) was only a theory and the research upon it wasn't finished because the original person died and all research was stopped before they discovered Pluto.

Nice.
Have also been doing research on this, the Mayan people have predicted most things right so far - equinoxes, solstices, eclipses. They were excellent astrologers!! It will be interesting to see (If we are still alive) what happens.

Yeah. Their predictions are quite accurate, that's why I can't help but get puzzled and "almost-believe" the end date, which is 12/21/2012 ... Confusing, and scary.
