Description Yay, it's all finished. Came together a lot quicker than i anticipated but it's all done now

When i first saw this photo i was pretty amazed, it was perfect to toon so i got started right away. Admitadly i was looking for a new model, went through many websites, especially pausing for a look around tunerzine.com where there are many really tempting photos to work with (obviously if you are planning to do this, you probably best had ask the photographers permission ).

I had two things in mind with this piece:

1) No gradients, or as few as possible. I think i ended up with a bit gradiation on the tyres to get them just right.

2) Work with the best when it comes to lighting. Yep with VMaN on board this piece was always going to have some special included. And i'm sure you'll agree, he's done a freaking awesome job Nice one son

I am, as i'm sure most of you are, pretty blown away by what dangeruss has been posting over at his gallery. Obviously it's nice to know he got started with tooning/vectoring cars because of what he'd seen at mine and visua's galleries, but it's cool to have more competition on the site He is pushing me to pull out all the stops and work my arse of just to create something that can be remotely described as good compared to what he is offering. But that's a good thing, i'm not complaining

Apologies for the essay. I clearly had lots to say. I know this piece isn't perfect, i'm sure you can point out all the mistakes, and please do.

Just want to thank Oliver again for his help with this project

Ok...

Enjoy.

Very nice work.Β One of my personal favorite cars is the Porsche Carrera GT which is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. This car also inspired me for a painting in Adobe Illustrator (2-D, using no mesh/no grid for gradients) from another interesting angle. See here: exotic-legends.deviantart.com/…
Also see the detail-links in the attachment of the picture-description.

Awesome piece of work.

lol, how do you criticize something you can't find fault with? I particularly like the detail on the headlights.

Well I guess if I had to find something wrong with it, I'd say the body panel lines could be a bit thicker, but it's such a minor complaint.

10/10 for sure.

OH MY GOD.

Don benni is back, crazier than ever!

with mad skills like that Don you could take over the world!
Those rims and the headlights almost made me drop a load in my underwear!

oh my god, well you know i always like to criticise so here goes:

Only things i could find unpleasing were the "donbenni" thing on windshield, looked outta place, and the rear wing, i dont know why, but it just looks wrong?

BUT APART FORM THAT ITS PERFECT!!!!!!

(oh and theres some weird box around the rear-view mirror, but im nost sure if that is purposely ther?)

way to go don <3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

donbenni In reply to kkz [2005-03-16 22:56:40 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thanks man

The wing is really bland, i know that. There's a really dumb reason why it is so, but i won't go into it.

The box around the rear view is supposed to be there. It's an enlarged mirror that has been placed infront of the original. Probably to make seeing past that wing a lot easier!

The donbenni logo is a replacement of a similarly designed logo that was in the photo. Obviously as i added it in myslef it's bound to look slightly wrong. I tried though!

Glad you like it, and thanks for the fav

Well, well. An NSX! Sh!t. It just so happens I've working on an NSX as well in almost the exact same perpective! Different car though, an earlier one (1991) with pop-up headlights. I like yours better. Nothing much to criticize here, and visua's done a pretty thorough job of pointing out the tiny "errors". I'm really impressed with the tires! The only thing that really detracts and doesn't seem convincing is the A-pillar gauges. The look like Christmas Jingle Bells or something to me. I'm not a fan of the curved air dam / splitter, but you've done a great job in capturing form and shape throughout. Oh and one more thing - tell visua it's OK to share that CF pattern with you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

visua In reply to dangeruss [2005-03-15 18:37:57 +0000 UTC]

Hey, Its the smallest errors that are the most annoying. Most annoying because they are so small you have to search for them, and Im sure DB wants the most immaculate art he can do.

Oh, DB, Im not saying your errors annoy me, Im mean all errors in general annoy me, especially mine.

....
Sorry.

donbenni In reply to dangeruss [2005-03-15 16:06:43 +0000 UTC]

Cool, i'll tell/ask visua r.e. the CF pattern.

The guages are pretty lame i admit, that is kinda how they look in the photo though. I should've stuck a few more minutes into them to get them just a little better.

Cheers for the comment Russ, always appreciated. Looking forward to your NSX

I'm not really a big fan of the newer NSXes (), but then again, vectors are a totally different aspect Just one tiny problem though.. I think the Bride decal on the hood looks abit off. Besides that, everything else looks really good. Nice to see the good ol' style kicking in again

Dude, I love it! Question though (and one that I've been meaning to ask a pro vectorizer too!): how do you do the decals so well? Do you recreate an outline of the logo/decal, or do you stretch/skew it to work?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

donbenni In reply to werewolf1234 [2005-03-15 00:49:57 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much skew and distort until it fits That's why they occasionally look pretty wank. I just used Google's image search to find them Thanks for the comment.

one and only complaint i may have for it is that the right headlight seems to be a bit off, kinda skewed in one direction, and almost like its pointing towards me too much, and not towards the front of the car. maybe its just my perception, but the whole depth and feel of it is a bit akward, aside from that, i think its great.....really love the NSX, tis a beautiful machine, just dont see enough of em .....at any rate.....yes....russ is an amazing artist, i think just about anything that man touches turns to gold.....but by all means, dont let it get ya down, if it does drive you to work harder, damn fine and well....and keep it comin, no matter how much i love his work, i enjoy seeing yours as well......so bring it on

Wow, that is REALLY nice! VMaN certaintly does a great job with lights, and did he do the rims?
The 'T' on Tein is jaggy, you can see white aliasing around it. Also, the decals on the windshield are jagged as well, and you can barely read them, though I still know what they are.
Tires look great, nothing to fix there. Though in the land of carbon fibre patterns, you are missing out. I would supply you with the one Russ sent me, but I would need his permission. Youre best asking him yourself as its the best cf pattern out there.
Im loving the work on the interior, though the side windows need to show through as well as the solid back doesnt quite look right.
Whoops, I see more jaggies, this time on the front rim lip.
All around, its a great piece and I love to see your work continue to advance, keep it up!
Its also nice to see that competition makes you grow stronger, whereas others (me) just get tired and depressed.
Ive scrapped 12 works in the past month because I didnt feel I would be viewed because Russ' work is so immaculate. I gotta snap out of it.

Oh, jaggies on top intake as well.

Sorry just finishing answering all your points.

The windscreen graphics aren't supposed to be legible, it's not a book! Also it's practically impossible to resize sponsor stickers without getting Mick Jaggers.

The side window(s) is/are bright white in the photo, couldn't see a thing through it, perfectly white. Didn't look right in this piece as bright white though, so i dulled it/them out.

VMaN did the lights, i did the wheels. I'll take your question there as compliment at attention to detail (:

Glad someone noticed/commented on the VMaN logo on the rim. There was logo there in the photo, i changed it to VMaN as i included my name on the windscreen and wanted to credit him in the picture as well as just in the comment.

Hey, you know, there is a website that has Adobe Illustrator files that you can use for free of almost every logo known to man. Easily resizable due to the fact that they are vector. Just free transform points.
No Mick Jaggers.

Ah you jaggy Nazi you.

I did put a CF pattern on the bonnet, but removed it just before i finished because it looked rubbish. IMO it either looks really good, or really bad. I put CF on my Bomex Supra and that looked alright, not this time though.

Thanks for the comment G, post up some new work already dammit
