Whether you are a fan of the man or the magazine or not, there is no denying that he and it were incredably influential and consequencial.Β I think if it wasn't for Playboy there would be no Diviant Art --there is a direct link between the taboos PB broke and the art I and others post here.Β Thank you HH.

Playboy had the misfortune of outliving its relevance, and Hefner -- despite his place in history as a champion of sexual freedom and the first amendment -- always creeped me out. I would imagine it's only a matter of time before the exposes on him start hitting the bookshelves, especially given the open season we're currently witnessing on Hollywood and media predators.

When i was a kid Hef was my hero, the women he dated, the magazine's and of course the Playboy Bunny! The World mght seem a bit dull from now on.

I still remember my 13th birthday--in the prehistoric past--when one of my uncle's gave me a Playboy commemorative edition. Yes, Hefner did a lot to break molds that had to be broken, and this is great tribute to him.Β Β

I gotta confess, I've never held a Playboy magazine in my life but when I was young, I found that in 94 Garth Brooks had interviewed with Playboy and it was actually considered his deepest interviews ever but since I was a wee 5 year old boy, my family wouldn't buy it even if Garth was on there. Luckily Planet Garth posted the interview transcript so I was able to read it when I was around 10.

The man was a true trail blazer, certainly impacted society, for the better I think!!!!! I miss going to the PB Clubs, great food reasonably priced and the scenery, well what can I say,
the scenery was always amazing!!!!!

A reallyΒ nice tribute! I remember when my Dad subscribed and how the magazine came packaged for mail delivery. He didn't do too good a job of hiding the issues either. Later, I remember getting my own subscription which lasted for several years. I loved the photography, the cartoon art, the interviews (naturally!), the 20 questions with feature, and the classic Little Annie Fanny features at the back of the issues by Harvey Kurtzman and Will Felder.Β He was a pioneer who paved the way for all who followed him, including as you said, many of us here on DA. I think my favorite issue of all was December 1988 (which is one of the only issues I kept) because it featured an article by Harlan Ellison about comics!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it Rob and thank you so much for sharing such wonderful memories.Β I have seen a few issues over the years but must admit I know it mostly by reputation.Β Still, there is no doubt that the magazine, and HH himself were a leading part of the sexual revolution of the 1960s that changed the world we live in today!
