Caught your image here on pearwood 's feature on "crop it square".  Really like your photo here, with the flow of the stone against the flow of the water.  Great contrast in the vein of quartz (?) running through the rock.  It is interesting how your square crop of the image assembles the various curves and rectangles in the scene.

Beautiful work!

Wow! Thank you for your very kind critique. It is a very interesting area of SE Oklahoma. We are in the Kiamichi Mountains, though many people think of the dust bowl, flat lands depicted in the book and movie by Steinbeck "Grapes of Wrath."

Definitely looks like a beautiful area, though honestly, you can find beautiful almost anywhere if you look hard enough.

Great bit of work showing us that side of Oklahoma!

Heh.  As they think the wilds and landscapes of New York State are all an extension of NYC.

That looks really neat! It is petrified wood?

No, it is sedimentary shale that flakes very easily with an intrusion of quartz crystal that has been uplifted. The shale makes for some great skipping stones and my grand uses it as chalk!
