well if you are older and have read a whole lot then that probably means that you are also a better writter

Not necessarily.
I worked as a staff reporter quite a while and that's "dicey" as far as "better writer" is concerned.
My profile page still displays little awards won here in '10.
Now I want to get another for '11 (maybe...and also make my 'pocket' money outside here).
I prefer short fiction but sometimes bad habits still haunt.
