Description A Concavenator investigates a herd of Iguanodon for young or weak animals but the dominant bull notices it and blocks the way.

Concavenator is a Spanish carcharodontid that lived during the early Cretaceous. His most distinctive characteristic is this weird sail on his back, I made it some sort of a ridge/hump thing. Concavenator was a medium theropod with a length of 6 metres.
Iguanodon is one of the first dinosaurs ever discovered, there were many species of Iguanodon and remains have been found worldwide. With a length of up to 9 metres he was a pretty big animal.

Great work! Now you gotta restore Iguanodon with those big mitts like the new S. Hartman skeleton: scotthartman.deviantart.com/ar…

this sorta reminds me of that scene from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron, when Spirit fights off the cougar. That Iguanodon "Stallion" seems to have the stance of a horse in that position ya' placed him in, i guess....
GREAT WORK AMIGO!!

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to TarbosaurusBatar [2014-03-16 20:32:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it was my intention not to draw them, is there actually real proof that they really had quils? Correct me if I'm wrong, I just don't know that much and I never saw an article or someone saying we have proof of them having this kind of feathers so I wanted to draw him with just some fuzz on his back.

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to TarbosaurusBatar [2014-03-16 21:07:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeh I guess so, making mistakes is the best way of learning.
About the bumps: of who are we sure they had them? Dromaeosaurids for sure, I see tyrannosaurids being often depicted with quils on their arms, carcharodontids and megalosaurs too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TarbosaurusBatar In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2014-03-16 21:09:24 +0000 UTC]

Well, definitely at least most Coelurosaurs, bumps have been found on Concavenator, but they could just be quills instead of wings.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to TarbosaurusBatar [2014-03-16 21:19:48 +0000 UTC]

I prefer quills, winged arms look so useless on big carivorous theropods.

They could be used as sails (ostriches do this)

acepredator In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2014-10-21 20:16:46 +0000 UTC]

I think is would be better to evolve new ways of using feathers than just losing them.

acepredator In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2014-10-21 20:22:49 +0000 UTC]

I just got this weird idea on what a feathered raisuchian would look like (crocodiles today still have feather genes)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to acepredator [2014-10-21 20:24:25 +0000 UTC]

Pretty weird I guess xD
But for crocodiles it looks more usefull to just loose them since they live in the water most of the time.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

acepredator In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2014-10-21 20:26:19 +0000 UTC]

But rauisuchids lived on land and were active (likely even endothermic) predators so a fuzzy coat mixed with armour makes sense.

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to acepredator [2014-10-21 20:32:46 +0000 UTC]

Uhu, true. A drawing of a partly fuzzy Postosuchus for example would be cool

Let's give people ideas.
How about one where all limbs have symmetrical feathers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to acepredator [2014-10-21 20:36:08 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean with symmetrical? Like the flight feathers of birds?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

acepredator In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2014-10-21 20:36:53 +0000 UTC]

more like the inner tail feathers.

I'm not so insane to think an animal that size could glide.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to acepredator [2014-10-21 20:41:08 +0000 UTC]

Wouldn't protofeathers be more logical? Didn't real feathers only started to develop during the Jurassic period?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

acepredator In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2014-10-21 20:41:50 +0000 UTC]

Protofeathers could work even better (still trying to picture a croc with feathers)

At least dinosaurs are mostly bipedal and have many obvious bird-like features.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to acepredator [2014-10-21 20:46:09 +0000 UTC]

Uhu, it's easier with them, but you know I'll try to draw the protofeathered rauischian when I've got some time. Lets see how that'll turn out
