(True) Mothman is a creature native to West Virginia that is a hybrid between a human and a moth. its species (homo Lepidoptera) has lived for thousands of years in caves, only coming out to hunt. like spiders, it stuns its prey with some sort of venom and continues to eat it back at its cave.

somewhere around 1966 one of these creatures left its cave for quite some time, probably out of curiosity or by being distracted. in this period the Mothman created quite the disturbance.. reports from all over West Virginia came in of a large, grey, bird-like creature with red eyes, soaring the skies. eventually people went on a search for the creature and the poor thing had a hard time staying hidden. one day the searching team was quite close to discovering the Mothman. in a panic it tried to hide on Silver Bridge..... but instead it accidentally made it collapse...
either way... the tragedy of the bridge collapsing was enough to distract the media for a moment. the creature took this opportunity to flee back into its cave.
search parties still searched the woods for this dangerous creature ofcourse.. but Luckily for the true mothman, it's little lookalike covered for him. it being so small and clumsy, quickly changed the minds of the citizens as they started brush it off as mass hysteria.

this also altered the diet of the true Mothman slightly, as its little lookalike was often seen as a little snack. after the whole incident the creature was basically wiped off the menu as a form of gratitude

the true Mothman actually both lays eggs and gives birth? what happens is.. that the eggs remain inside the mama moth for quite some time until they hatch. then after they hatch the little caterpillarkids need to crawl out by themselves. (i know, gross)
these caterpillarkids have quite the appetite. and with that i mean that they will literally eat EVERYTHING to satisfy their hunger, not caring much if it is actually edible or not.

once the larva child is all stuffed and fat it spins a cocoon on the cave walls. .... it takes a while to actually make.. but it's there, eventually. once in the cocoon it falls in a long slumber. in this slumber it basically dissolves its own body until the whole cocoon is filled with body goop. from this goop however rebirths the caterpillar into its moth form. and when the time is ready, it awakens once again and tears out of the cocoon. (the whole cocoon process takes about a whole year)
once the newly reborn Mothman emerges it is overwhelmed by confusion and can hurt itself easily by doing stupid mindless things (i mean.. if i turned to goop my head would still look like scrambled eggs too) luckily, with the help of its parents it is guided back to its senses and shortly after is taught how to fly by them too. ... which also often goes wrong. but atleast they'll get better at it faster if they start early on.

and that's how a happy mothman family is made
