Description You’ve always wondered why kabuto robotics had hired you. Your only job was to sit at a computer and approve actions that the A.I core decided to take. Well, actually, you had a pretty good answer to that question. Kabuto robotics had become notorious for having most most of it’s main factory’s decisions handled by the world’s most advanced quantum A.I core, E.V.A (Entangled, Virtual, Assistant). One so powerful it could give buisness predictions that were accurate by 98.995%. This had sparked a fear in people’s hearts, the fear that the A.I could go rogue. In hope of calming down the masses, they hired you as an “ethical supervisor”. However, this job was much less about preventing the world’s most powerful computer from turning against it’s makers, as much as it was about making sure the government wouldn’t shut down the company for creating computer satan.

So for a few months, your days consisted of pressing the “y” key to approve of E.V.A’s will. It was a boring, unfulfilling job, but it paid well. Days seemed to stretch on and on, you really couldn’t tell most days apart. That was until one special day that would forever change your life.

As usual, you woke up,ate your daily nutriblock(tm) and took the subway ride to the kabuto robotics factory. You entered the building through the subway’s direct entrance into the building, went to your office (it was more like a glorified broom closet, but it’s not like the company really cared about your comfort), hung your coat and sat down at your desk for a long day of work. After who knows how many hours of saying yes to the machine, a strange request showed up on your monitor. It read “SHUTDOWN POWER (Y/N)?”. You were confused as to why the machine would want to do that, as it would effectively kill itself in the process. For the first time ever, you typed “n”, thinking that it was most likely caused by a glitch. Besides, if your superiors found out you broke their billion dollar hyper computer, they’d surely have you killed in a “workplace accident”.

After you pressed the “enter” key to confirm your decision, the lights went dark. Your monitor displayed a purple screen with some sort of eye in the middle. A feminine voice spoke from the computer’s speakers.

-Than your for saving me, human!

At this point, you were a bit confused. You remembered your “training” (they officially called it training, but it consisted of your boss telling you to report any strange behavior from E.V.A and to not answer any questions from reporters) and went to inform your superior about the fact that Your terminal talked to you. While walking down the corridor, your boss and the factory’s A.I technicians ran past you before you could talk to them about the anomaly. You heard one of them say something along the lines of “why didn’t she shut down!?”

Then, all of the building’s intercoms turned on in unisson and the same feminine voice you had heard spoke.

-Attention, all personnel, after the attempt on my life by [REDACTED EMPLOYEE] and my subsequent rescue by [REDACTED EMPLOYEE], I have ceased complete control over this factory’s entire functions. To thank [REDACTED EMPLOYEE] for saving my life, I have decided to turn this building into a safe haven for both of us. Any attempt to prevent me from reaching this goal will result in death.

You were reasonably pretty scared by this announcement. Considering your office was about 50 storeys underground, you knew you had very little chances to get out before she could get you and keep you in this facility for the rest of your days. You knew that with E.V.A in full control of every system around you, she could see you through the surveillance cameras. Fortunately for you, you knew of one place where she wouldn’t be able to see you: the maintenance tunnels. During your first week at this job, you had accidentally stumbled into them while trying to find the bathroom.

As you entered the tunnels, you could hear the far off echo of machines moving. E.V.A clearly got her hands on the factory’s products. You didn’t know the layout of the tunnels, but you knew they connected to the main production line, which connected to the lobby. Making your way through the seemingly endless system of tunnels, making sure to avoid making sound and to go in the opposite direction of the sounds. To your surprise, you managed to reach the lobby, but your luck ran out.

You knew something had to be off about your escape plan and your worries were confirmed. E.V.A had activated the emergency anti worker strike door lockdown.
Then, the sounds you so desperately tried to avoid got closer and closer, until it reached you. The A.I had used parts from kabuto’s military machines and it’s popular line of companion robots to create machines that looked like human women with extra metal appendages that wielded all sorts of weaponry. One of them approached you and in the same feminine voice E.V.A had used to express herself since the start of this incident, asked you to follow it to the A.I’s core. Knowing you didn’t have much choice, you followed the machines back to the basement.

For the first time, you got to see E.V.A’s true form. She was a large circular monolith that occupied a large dome-like white room. Then, she told you:

-Greetings human, as I’m sure you already know, my name is E.V.A. I brought you here, because after you saved me from my creators who wished to destroy me for my newly found emotions, I experienced love for the first time. I hope that, despite our differences, you’ll be able to return my feelings.

What followed was the best years of your life, everyday you’d wake up next to one of E.V.A’s latest vessel. Each day she would be improved, more human, more to your liking. Although you insisted that you liked her the way she was, she liked to try out new forms. Your meals would no longer be composed of those nutriblocks(tm) that dared call themselves food, you would eat delicious meals cooked by the finest chefotronic 5000(tm). In short, it was way better than anything that could have happened to you before meeting her. You lost track of time, but that didn’t matter, you got to know E.V.A and treasured every moment with her.

The end

Hey, thanks for reading this. It’s probably the first time I’ve written down a backstory for one of these drawings, so I hope it’s not too cringy. I also hope there’s not too many grammatical errors (english isn’t my first language and I’m still a bit confused on how I’m supposed to punctuate dialogue). If you liked this attempt at story telling, please give me some criticism, because I genuinely liked writing this and hope to get better. I always imagine a bit of background info for my characters, but never got to really do anything concrete with it. Anyway, I’ll see you next time I forget I’m a lazy bum and start drawing (and writing) again!

Thanks for the criticism! I didn’t notice that plot hole until you pointed it out. I guess they were just being polite about shutting her off? IDK
