Reason for rejection:
These actions are out of their character. Anne's very mischievous, but she's not that gullible.
Frank wouldn't fall for that either. If anything, Anne would find a smarter way to scam him and sell the lamp herself.

I was too absorbed into the comic's meaning than actually considering the character's personalitites and actions. It's actually very pitiful just thinking about it.
