Description
Did some style testing, I guess. I think I may have spent a little too much time on the backgrounds, but they actually were really fun to draw, so I might just keep them because of that. xDI think there should be 1-2 more pages of this, so we'll see how this goes. Improvised this entire thing a few months ago so I'm not super proud of the dialogue.

The background on my "Hang on Link" picture I used were water color pencils, and I didn't even realize why they weren't showing very good, despite that I had been pressing hard on them to really show the colors.
I use crayola now, thankies to Linky!

Ah, yeah! Watercolor pencils definitely have to be used in a certain way to really bring out their colors.Β
Great! Crayolas are pretty nice. Have you heard of Prismacolors?

They're a type of pencil my sister really likes! They're good for mixing colors and things like that.

I just looked them up and I think my sister has those.
I've been starting to believe that color pencils won't show very well on a sketchpad because of how thick the paper is comparing to other sheets of paper like the lined ones.
Crayons work fine, that's why I've started using them now.
Also Linky talked me into getting the Crayola brand so I got a big box of em at Walmart.

If you say so. My sister's tried it on quite a few paper thicknesses and it always shows up well, but it takes a while to layer the colors so they look solid.Β
Sounds good! It's been forever since I've used crayons.

That's just my opinion, no offense really. Β
I know me too! I keep them in a shortbread cookie box I bought at Disneyland.

WHOOOAA OKAY. ok. this is really good - i love how you stabelized the character lines too - it's a lot more solid than the WIP you showed me, and that good.Β

Love the Colors! I know this is just a test, but I would also make the time to include borders for the panels. Β Like the comment about slightly darker outlines, borders make the action within the panels easier to understand, and then when you want to wow them like in the last panel, you can do a full bleed which brings the viewer into the scene. Β This style has so much potential!

Thank you so much! It means a lot to me that you liked it. I'll keep your tips in mind! I'm new to making digital comics, so it makes me really happy that so many people are willing to help ^^
I hope you don't mind me asking, but what's a full bleed?
π: 0 β©: 1
heathcliff791 In reply to doomed-era [2018-02-04 03:36:37 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome!
Full bleed means when you're printing on paper, that you would draw/ink right to the edge of the area that they would trim off, instead of putting the image in a panel that would then have white space (unprinted paper) around it. Β The phrase comes from the idea that when on the page, the image will "bleed" off the edges.

I like it! Tho maybe ease off on the soft colors, comics tend to have hard colors

doomed-era In reply to Violet-DawnMLP [2018-02-02 22:29:22 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, I might. I'm afraid that might make it more difficult to color. Do you think maybe the characters could be more solid, while the backgrounds could be soft, or would that look weird?
π: 0 β©: 1
Violet-DawnMLP In reply to doomed-era [2018-02-02 22:35:21 +0000 UTC]
That would look fine! The backgrounds can be soft, it doesn't matter, just make sure the outlines are clear. We want to be able to tell what the environment is. Characters looking solid makes it look cleaner
